Pros and Cons of Shower Cabins/Pods?

Hi, could you share your experience of shower cabins or shower pods? Any negatives? I am considering one due to the fact it is leak-proof. Our bathroom had leaks many times over the years and I am thinking this might be a good solution.

We don't want the electric one or any fancy functions which are hard to repair if there are problems. We just want a plain and simple quadrant shower cabin that is contained and therefore will not leak. Probably no need for a roof as I don't want to use steam.

Is it easy to install? Is it easy to clean? Does it break? Does it last for a long time? I suppose it is impossible to fix if it breaks? That would a big piece of plastic to get rid of if that happens.

Thanks!

Love mine.

would never have bought one in a million years. Hated showers- felt cold and miserable dancing around to try and keep warm under the water.

bought this house. Had a shower cabinet. All the bells and whistles- foot washer, steam, massage jets etc etc. Looked at it and thought oh no, what a waste of space.

tried it, total convert. The steam is wonderful, for something as basic as heating up the cabinet before you get in, to sitting in and clearing your skin, to helping stuffy noses or sore muscles. Love the rainfall, even the little massage jets. Only thing I don’t use is the foot thing.

completely changed me from a bath to a shower person. I can get properly warm as the water heats the cabinet and not the whole bathroom.

old one must have been in for years, never had a problem. We had it for 6 years, and I don’t think it was a recent installation by the previous owner as the bathroom was very dated.

redid the bathroom about 4 years ago and got another. They’re actually easy to fit as you assemble it, join up the connections and slide it in.

Easy enough to clean- ours has a thing where when you switch it off it fans ozone through to sterilise for a minute. We just wipe it down after use.

Oh this is great 😁😁

The door smashed on ours and sourcing a replacement was impossible so we ended up getting a new one.

The shower broke in number 2 and because everything is hidden behind the walls of the pod the whole thing had to come out so the plumber could have access (typically our luck that the problem was behind).

They are easy to keep clean and leakproof, as pp said they are nice and warm because they are enclosed. That said when this one breaks I will be ripping it out and replacing it with a normal shower, cheaper costs when things go wrong and easier to buy new doors and other parts. Ours was in our house when we moved in, I wouldn't have put one in if it was my choice.

I didn't know this was a thing! I've always thought that showers should have a bubble lid on the top to keep the steam & heat in.

I didn't know about them either but looking for a long lasting option for our boys' en-suite and thought could work
