Flowers/chocolates?????

Sil and her OH had there offer accepted on a property about 2 months ago. They are going round for a 2nd viewing tomorrow.
Her OH has suggested they take a box of chocolates/flowers round as its first time they are meeting the vendor and to say thanks for accepting the offer.
Sil thinks its unnecessary and a bit full on as vendor might get worried as to why they are being so nice.
I personally think it's a lovely gesture. What do you guys think? Box of chocs/flowers to say thanks too full on???
What weird times we live in 😐

No! It’s a business deal not a friendship.

TheTeddyBears · 20/05/2022 18:24

Totally unnecessary.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 20/05/2022 18:25

Hell no.

I left Prosecco for the new owners of my Dad’s house.

The previous owner of my current house left me a painting.

JassyRadlett · 20/05/2022 18:26

The hundreds of thousands of pounds they're paying for the place is a pretty good token of their appreciation...

FuzzyPuffling · 20/05/2022 18:27

Ooh no. Weird.

Do you take a box of chocs to John Lewis to say thank you for selling me that duvet cover? Same principles apply.

XXhausted · 20/05/2022 18:28

Hmm I guess your right I didn't look at it from a business pov more of a kind gesture.

NO. So many things could go wrong between now and exchange of contracts!!
however, if you get to completion then its a nice thing to do if you are the vendor. Buyers dont normally buy anything for vendors.

Bubbles456 · 20/05/2022 18:30

I would find this creepy and weird to be honest.

MustardCress · 20/05/2022 18:31

No!!! def too full on. Be friendly and stuff of course, but gifts would be a bit obsequious. The sellers should be equally glad that they had an offer to accept. Keep it business-like.

XXhausted · 20/05/2022 18:32

@bilbodog come to think of it that's what her OH is trying to prevent by offering the "kind" gesture as they've had a previous purchase fall through.

Lovely on completion, OTT on a 2nd viewing before exchange. As a vendor this would make me extremely uncomfortable.

RubiesandRose · 20/05/2022 18:33

Sorry meant to say lovely for the vendor to do on completion as a welcome to your new home gesture. The buyer doesn't need to do anything.

LocalHobo · 20/05/2022 18:34

The previous owner of my house gave up quite a few hours to go through the peculiarities of living here. I thought this was unnecessary until we started (Medieval building/outbuildings/cellars etc) but I'm so glad she offered, and I sent flowers to say thank you afterwards.
I can't see such a kind gesture causing any downside for your SIL.

The vendors will do what is right for them regardless of a box of chocolates. If they want to pull out or need to be tough about anything, they will. They’re not going to feel obliged to people because they bought them a box of chocolates. It’s a silly and weird idea.
