I am currently driving myself crazy! We have had 4 different plans done and none seem to be "it"

If anyone can see how we can fit everything in ( it's a decent space! I don't understand why we can't! ) and have it look nice I would really appreciate the help!

I've attached the floor plan.
Purple x is where our boiler currently is.
Red x is where it could be moved to.

We need to fit all the usual kitchen appliances.

Washing machine
Dryer
Oven
Hob ideally with a built in vent
Sink
Dishwasher
Fridge
Freezer

Fridge/freezer would ideally both be larder sizes. We currently have an American fridge freezer but the freezer isn't big enough!

I would really love to have some sort of larder cupboard.
We just need storage and lots of it

And need to fit the dining table in too!! 😩

I have the same problem. I have what I would deem is a decent sized space but seem not able to fit it all in.

With regards to the freezer size, I have solved that one with adding an undercounter freezer. You could keep your American fridge freezer and have an additional freezer undercounter. We will be losing the shed chest freezer as the extension is going in that direction so we have had to be creative.

On your plan, where are your drains?

princesssparklepants · 12/05/2022 10:45

Having both an American fridge freezer and undercounter freezer won't help I don't think.

Currently sink is under the window, next to the boiler (purple cross)

But we were/are looking to move everything over to the right hand side of the plan.

This is the most recent plan.

How ever we can't have an extracting hob over an undercounter oven!
DH really doesn't want an overhead extractor.

And I'm slightly worried we don't have much cupboard space!

I don’t really understand how your plan relates to the blank floor plan.

Have you thought about stacking the washer and dryer to save space?

it looks like you have an empty wall in the kitchen. Could you have a run of units along there?

JonSnowedUnder · 12/05/2022 13:53

You may have already tried it but DIY Kitchens has a great planner - very easy to mock up different plans.

princesssparklepants · 12/05/2022 15:57

@BananaPie yeah sorry the kitchen plan is turned

@JonSnowedUnder haha yeah that's what I've been using but I've done so many variations I just cannot get everything to fit.

But I think we will need to put the washer/dryer stacked in the dining room bit. Hoping our builder will be able to build a nice wall length unit to hide it all away in!

Are the two windows on the RHS doors or can units go under them?

princesssparklepants · 12/05/2022 18:01

No the top are French doors and the bottom are windows

Daft qn, but go with..:

Assuming that this is an existing space, where does the sun shine in winter (low sun, so might be annoying sat down) and summer?

Where are the existing drains for waste (or do you plan to move them)?

BananaPie · 12/05/2022 18:20

Would something like this not give you more cupboard space? Units where it’s shaded red. Optional island in purple.

i think the arrangement on your current plans looks like the door would open into the peninsula?

I’d go for a run of tall units on the longest wall to accommodate oven, washer dryer and fridges then worktop for the rest. You could prob squeeze a basin in on that long wall too.

princesssparklepants · 12/05/2022 20:42

I think we did that plan already but couldn't fit everything... we had to have the boiler and washing machine and dryer in the dining room for that too!

Waste and drains being moved.

Basically current kitchen is in the small square and we are moving it to the larger bit.

Kitchen is west facing

I think the patio doors in the new kitchen are the problem. Can you not switch and have the current window as the patio doors then a window in the new kitchen?

or can you move the internal door?

parietal · 12/05/2022 21:25

I like BananaPie's plan. I think you have space for 10 units around the biggest L-shape of the room (numbered 1-10 on my plan) so those should be:

1 & 2 - fridge/freezer
3 - washing machine
4 & 5 - under-counter cupboards
6 & 7 - sink & dishwasher
8 - under-counter drawers / cupboards
9 - full height wall unit with oven in the middle
10 - dryer with boiler over

Then the hob & would go in the island with more drawers & cupboards underneath

There would be cupboards above 3 & 4 but ideally not everywhere else so the room doesn't feel too crowded.

I think that will let you fit everything in and still have space to move about and have a dining table etc.

Or how about:

A - stacked washer and dryer
B - tall larder unit reaching round into corner
C / D - fridge and freezer
E - low level unit with reach into corner
F - run of low units / drawers including sink, undercounter cooker and hob
X - integrated dishwasher with boiler above

This doesn’t leave masses of worktop space so you would need an island.

you could consider some units in the dining area for glasses and plates

or if you could compromise on the fridge and freezer and have a single 60cm width fridge freezer that would buy you some space. You could have that in C then counter where D is

I agree the patio doors aren't helping you as they take space from the working area.
You would need an island to give enough worktop but I'm not sure there's room for a big enough one without getting too close to the sides of the room.
You could also look at straight runs of units so you have everything tall including ovens on the back wall, your larder may need to be an 1100 unit. Then a gap and run with sink, DW and wm. Wall units over . Leaves an island for hob and prep/serve space.
Don't bother with a built in extractor. Put a good , small wall extractor fan with a humidity sensor and boost switch on the external wall where the patio doors are.

The door in to the kitchen is actually being moved. It's currently where I've added the blue cross.

Swapping the door and windows round was thought about, I think but was just adding more to the budget.

The other issue I have is I work from home and currently have a desk in the dinning room.... and a dining table.
So a desk needs to fit in the dining room too.

BUT I have come up with a solution of sorts.... in the small square we will have a custom built full wall unit built. One section to house the washing machine and dryer- stacked. And end bit with my desk that can be hidden and the middle will have a tv and some shelves for a sort of home bar.

Something like the 2nd picture but not as rustic looking.

Have the final
Meeting with kitchen designer tomorrow so will let you know what we go for!

I would absolutely swap doors and windows around if you can, so the doors are by the dining table. Gives you more kitchen options and allows you to eat with the doors open on warm days, lovely. It really shouldn’t cost much to swap I’d have thought, have you had it costed?

I like your dining room wall solution. Dining tables take less space than people often think when doing plans.

My other thought is whether there is anywhere else in the house the w/m can go as it’s so good to get that noise out of the kitchen, as well as freeing up space.

princesssparklepants · 13/05/2022 21:10

You are all totally right! We need to swap the door and window. No idea why I didn't see it!

Any idea how much that would cost if we reuse the same door and window?

We are finalising the kitchen tomorrow and builders come Tuesday to go through everything! 🫣
