Someone using my name and address to make noise complaint

Hi There,
Last week I received a letter from the local council saying thanks for your recent noise complaint, we hope we can help.
The thing is I've never sent a complaint to them and I'm worried that someone is using my name and address for other things too. I've contacted the council twice now and was told someone would contact me but haven't heard anything back yet. I don't know if I should go to the police, I've looked on the police website and can't find a link to reporting such an issue. I've even checked the council's site for reporting noise complaints to see how it needs to be reported and if it could be just a case of clicking the wrong address on a drop-down menu but from what I can see - you have to manually type your name and address.

Some advice would be really helpful and reassuring
Thanks

I guarantee this is EITHER: a mistake, OR a neighbour who is nervous about the noisy neighbours finding out it was them who complained.

The police? 😕

I must just be over-worrying then, ill leave it be. I never actually thought it could be another neighbor.

Thanks for reassuring me. :)

Do you own your house? If so I'd put in writing to the council that it wasn't you who made the complaint and keep records of communication with them.
You have to declare formal disputes with neighbours like this and you might be in a bit of a difficult situation if you don't declare it when you sell.

Which is exactly why the most likely explanation is one of your neighbours has used your details.

Well, I would imagine that the reason you got a letter in this day and age is because this is a problem for them that happens - or why wouldn't they just email. I would take it formally and say you want your details deleted from any info or data referring to this complaint which the dept has.

No I rent from HSA, I live on a terrace of 4 houses 2 on the end are private and the 2 in middle are HSA. We have had to pop over to the other HSA home in the past to stop harassment but that was a few years ago now and that seems to have stopped, although we don't talk to the other HSA renters because of the harassment. - both private owners keep themselves to themselves although the one on my side likes loud BBQs every so often, nothing I'm bothered by though

I’m guessing one of the private owners wants to put their property on the market. Noise/neighbour disputes have to be declared and can put some people off buying.
My other thought is that the council have written to everyone, after receiving one complaint - thus allowing some people who are too frightened to complain, the ability to come forward with their own complaint under the umbrella of ‘you aren’t alone in complaining’.

It'll be one of the private home owners making that complaint and using your address so they don't have to declare it when they sell their house.
