Tiling over concrete patio slabs

We are just having a summer house built with a patio out front. The patio is boring concrete slabs. I want to tile over them with something fun.
Seems totally simple - few tiles, bit of grout that will be ok outside.

Am I right?

I'm not sure I see it that way. I asked if it was straightforward to lay tiles and you all said it was a bonkers idea, so I have (reluctantly) shelved it.
Some people have suggested stencilling, which I have asked for more about and someone suggested decking, which I think might be the solution
It will not result in cracked tiles will it?

If by interlocking tiles you mean decking, yup decking is a much safer option.

For stencilling, google “stencilled patio” will give you quite a few examples.

I'm with @AMBE123. This thread is weird.

I'm absolutely mystified as to why you put down concrete paving if you don't want it.

Why didn't you lay the paving you wanted in the first place? Confused

Ah, I see. When you said interlocking tiles I thought you meant tiles that have profiled edges so they snap together.

Sorry I have realised I wasn't clear - I meant interlocking decking stuff not tiles. 😁

Yeah I don't get why you didn't just lay whatever tiles/decking you wanted to begin with? Why pay for work to be done and then immediately want to change it to something else?

This. And ask for advice but dispute every bit of it 🙄

Honestly people, I'm asking for DIY advice!

I haven't disputed it at all. I've sought clarification on what people have said and tried to understand the points being made.

I have accepted that tiles are likely to crack and come up with what looks like a workable solution.

I didn't ask anyone's opinion on whether I should have procured a different type of summerhouse from a different company and I didn't ask what you thought of the concrete slabs, whether you thought I had stuffed something up. That decision has been made, I'm not going to turn back the clock, and the bit of pretty is secondary to the establishment of a summer house we want.

I totally accept that other people might have approached this differently, and while that is very interesting I am actually just trying to lay a bit of patio.

On the plus side, the sun is threatening to come out this weekend, so I should enjoy my badly thought out shoddy and cheap work 😁

I hadn't seen your update, sorry! I was responding to your orginal tile comments.

Good that you're taking the comments on board now. There's probably loads of stencilling examples if you Google. You could perhaps have a go on a spare tile and see if you like the effect?

demotedreally · 13/05/2022 19:00

That's a really good idea thanks!
