We have UFH for most of our downstairs, but will be needing rads for the rest of the property. I was hoping to splash out a little for 'prettier' rads here and there but I'm having conflicting messages. Some say that you must have specialist rads compatible with the system (and these aren't 'pretty' at all) whilst a few others have said that I can upgrade to nicer looking rads.

I'm confused. Can I please ask what you all have, other than UFH?

We kept a load of our radiators. I think you are being poorly advised. They just need to be big enough. Oh and welcome to the lovely warm world of an ASHP, we love ours.

You can use whatever radiators you want, but they have to be a suitable size. Presume you have a low-temp ASHP? In which case the radiators may need to be bigger than your old ones. Get a heat loss survey done by an energy consultant or via your installer: it will tell you how big each radiator needs to be to economically heat each room. If in doubt, go bigger. You can always turn the radiator thermostat down if the room is too warm.

If someone is telling you you have to use 'their' radiators I would presume they are making a big mark-up on them. I work in high-spec new builds and Jaga are a make we use regularly. They're unobtrusive, small for their output and they have a built-in, silent fan that sends the warm air from the radiator around the room.

Make sure you put enough heating in the bathroom/s. A lot of people think a heated towel rail is enough but it's not and you'll waste a lot of money trying to keep a bathroom warm with just a towel rail.

If you are in Herts we are selling our Mitsubishi fan assisted radiators for heat pumps. We're upgrading to ufh everywhere as we are renovating. Have you looked into climaveneta radiators? They can do cooling in Summer as well.
