@AwkwardPaws27 it looks absolutely fantastic, you must be so pleased! How long until you can use it?

AwkwardPaws27 · 13/07/2022 13:25

The kitchen floor should be finished tomorrow, we can walk on it straight away which is good. Then the fitter will start prepping the hallway & study - we'll probably need to vacate for the day while the screed dries - before laying those.

The sink & dishwasher should be plumbed in soon (washing up in the bath currently!), & the electrician is coming back to wire in the hob and fit pendant light over the island.

Then it's a bunch of smaller jobs - couple of kitchen cupboard doors to fit, skirting, doors to each room, and we've got an offcut of worktop for on top of the washing machine.

Oh blimey, and decorating. Not sure I can face that right now. I need to call the guy who did our living room but I'm putting it off as it means more decisions.

nomoneytreehere · 14/07/2022 07:49

Builders announced last night we need to get shower controllers and trays on site asap. I have been asking for weeks when they need them by so it is a bit annoying to now be in a rush.

I can't decide whether to put walk in trays in the kids en suites (prefer the look) or a full on enclosure (less water on the floor). I have space for a 1200 x 900 tray.

LivingInaBuildingSite · 14/07/2022 15:53

I’d go with what you prefer, they’ll grow up and either be better about the water going everywhere or be able to mop up themselves!

Emailed the boss guy saying I wasn’t happy about 2 days of only one guy on site, 3 here today and he emailed to apologise about timing issues.

Electrician has run through last lot of his jobs, there are still a few on his list but at least it has an end!

Painter here white washing everywhere - I can never decide on colours and find white calming while I wait for inspiration.

And plumber here too, don’t actually know what he’s doing!

need to find the list again.

LivingInaBuildingSite · 14/07/2022 15:56

TO DO:

The hallway; including taking out the old under stairs loo and wall to allow the hallway floor to flow under the stairs

The original old sash window halfway up the stairs - still waiting for glass

Fireplace: hearth (here but waiting for fireplace repair to be done) last bits of skirting, tile repair question, new base plate, new fireback, reinstall surround

painting - more done

last electrics (some switches and sockets still to go in) - more being done

repainting the old front door, porch door & side shed doors

security lighting & cameras

wall mount the big tv - mount is here

sink tap in utility - ✅

patio to be tiled - tiles here, waiting for tiler availability

patio glass balustrade put in (not ordered yet)

electrics in my bedroom (always been dodgy)

second coat of paint in the pantry - then I think I can start using it?
maybe need to wait for door handles in pantry sliding doors
also need a lower shelf added

install new downstairs loo - it is in! And the sink is plumbed in! And we can use it! I have already lol.

extra flooring to match hallway to go under the stairs & the downstairs loo

whatever else I haven’t thought of yet…

Newhome321 · 15/07/2022 11:59

Has anyone got security camera installed and set up in your plan. There are Ring and AST which are monthly subscription. We used to have cameras bought from amazon(Hissue I believe).

GardensandGrandDesigns · 15/07/2022 15:25

Electrics question! DH reckons we need 60 sockets when we re-wire the entire house!! It's a 4 bed house, does that sound about right or bonkers??

60 double sockets? Or is the 60 including things like light switches and things like fan isolators, shaver sockets, switch for integrated appliances etc?

If the former that sounds like tons. I'd say 4 per room (excluding bathrooms) plus one for the hallway and landing ideally.

LivingInaBuildingSite · 16/07/2022 07:51

Trying to list what we have (& what I’d add in older rooms):
3 per bedroom = 15
one on each landing/hallway = 3
office = 3
front room = (would put in) 4
extended living/kitchen area = 10 (I think)
utility = 2
storage/bike/kind of garage = 2
= 39
so roughly 40 in a 5 bed, with loft conversion and I may have put too many downstairs, might possibly add another in better places in old bedrooms.

60 sounds like too many!

We have plans for cameras, cctv though. So electrician has hardwired for them front and back.

haven’t worked out a doorbell option that can link into this, so may have a ring doorbell separately, as the cctv doesn’t seem to be accessible from a phone

GardensandGrandDesigns · 16/07/2022 08:46

I'll try and talk hubby down on the sockets 🤣🤣🤣

LivingInaBuildingSite · 18/07/2022 20:28

How is the socket planning going?!

not sure who was here and what they were doing while I was at work, I know the sit had a tidy up.
the extra shelf has gone in the pantry, and it part painted. Will have to take everything out for a final paint I think.

more general painting has happened I think, old radiator holes filled etc. so stuff has happened.

apparently someone came out to look at the under stairs area, where there used to be a downstairs loo. I want it taken out and opened up.

anyone else got progress to report?

GardensandGrandDesigns · 18/07/2022 21:41

Hmm DH has removed 1 of the 60 double sockets 🤣 went past our house at 9 and didn't see any builders vans so haven't bothered to take a look. However, the plan is to do the flat roof this week and sort out the hallway ceiling among other demolition and stud walls upstairs.

So the only benefit to this budget hotel living is meant to be Aircon in heat waves apart from every room we get it seems to be broken argh!! We've actually paid for premier Inn and Travelodge tonight to get some air con (money in flames) but of course it's broken again. I want to move back home!! So glad we are putting air con in to this house - climate change is going to make our Summers so much hotter.

HouseyHouse21 · 18/07/2022 23:17

Progress was slow today (understandably) but we should hopefly be fully plastered by the end of the week. Which is good because our kitchen arrives at some point next week, so the flooring would ideally be down before then.

I'm just choosing tiles for the utility and WC, so I can order those tomorrow. (And trying not to regret some of the last minute choices I made on the kitchen - I've deleted Instagram which is helping a bit).

NewHouseNewMe · 19/07/2022 22:02

Hello I’m back! Short break away and now back to melting builders, quite a bit of loft painting, coving, plastering and lots of tiling. Still lots and lots to go..
The plumber has screwed up a few things so trying to sort that out.
@AwkwardPaws27 I love the kitchen!

But the big news is that THE ROOF IS FINALLY DONE 👏. Some 20K tiles later lol..

LivingInaBuildingSite · 21/07/2022 20:09

Well done on the roof! @NewHouseNewMe

boss guy was here today, running through what’s left. And promising they aren’t abandoning me for the school holidays! They do lots of school contract work so often disappear in the holidays but we’re so near the end now.

TO DO:

The hallway; including taking out the old under stairs loo and wall to allow the hallway floor to flow under the stairs - having to change plan as structure won’t take it…

The original old sash window halfway up the stairs - still waiting for glass, glass being taken elsewhere as company say they are swamped

Fireplace: hearth (here but waiting for fireplace repair to be done) last bits of skirting, tile repair question, new base plate, new fireback, reinstall surround - waiting for quote from fire specialist

painting - more done - 2 decorators coming in the next few days to blitz it all

last electrics (some switches and sockets still to go in) - nearly done

repainting the old front door, porch door & side shed doors

security lighting & cameras

wall mount the big tv - mount is here

patio to be tiled - tiles here, waiting for tiler availability - tiler is fully booked for a while

patio glass balustrade put in (not ordered yet)

electrics in my bedroom (always been dodgy)

second coat of paint in the pantry - then I think I can start using it?
maybe need to wait for door handles in pantry sliding doors
also need a lower shelf added - ✅

decide on loo roll holder, towel rail, mirror for downstairs loo. Maybe a shelf? Long bare walls arm

extra flooring to match hallway to go under the stairs & the downstairs loo

whatever else I haven’t thought of yet…

LivingInaBuildingSite · 21/07/2022 20:11

Thoughts on what to do with the downstairs loo? It’s all white with just the black countertop atm. I don’t want anything sticking out from the wall without the sink as you’d bump into it. Maybe a shelf along the sink wall? It’s very long and feels a bit weird atm.

(photo is from before the loo went in. All painted now too)

Plants? Maybe in wall hanging pots?
(Could be naice faux ones if you aren't green fingered - I'm definitely not - or don't have natural light)

GardensandGrandDesigns · 21/07/2022 21:39

Boss builder looked very stressed today but we have lots going on over the next couple of weeks so hoping to see lots of progress! It looks absolutely horrendous inside and we have spent half of the budget. All a bit worrying when everything inside needs doing.

Novelty of living in a hotel is wearing off, I just want to relax at home. We are half way through the build (I hope)

Got some serious clearing up to do outside (we seem to have a mountain of cardboard), but I could stand* all day looking at this corner. The brick, the doors, the radiator. I love it.

*no choice, can't make my mind up on a dining table & chairs 😅

That is a seriously beautiful corner 😍 - very envy-inducing!

What colour will the walls be?

GardensandGrandDesigns · 22/07/2022 07:14

That corner is gorgeous! I cannot wait for some sexy glazing and plastered walls! Think I've gone a bit crazy! Great to see some nearly finished pics 😊

Some artwork on the long back wall? I have just ordered 3 medium sized framed posters of fave recent holiday destinations for mine as same thing - narrow but wanted some interest.

@HouseyHouse21 that's another decision I'm struggling to make - wall colours!

The kitchen is quite bold (dark green), and the brickwork and radiator are quite a statement, so I'm thinking of keeping the walls quite neutral - maybe just white, or an off-white?

The worktop is a white quartz with a low-key vein, & the splashback will be white rustic tiles (image attached). I'm not sure what other colours would go (I did consider a pale pink, but DH vetoed that!).

AwkwardPaws27 · 22/07/2022 09:42

I'm still struggling to choose a table & seating - I'm thinking benches, & have had this saved on my Etsy account for ages. They can use any farrow & ball colour on the legs, so might go for a dark green (Duck Green?) to tie in with the kitchen units.

My other thought was a built in bench with storage under the seat, but the space we have is quite narrow and I think that might take up more room and be less versatile?
