@AwkwardPaws27 just seen your pics after my post! Love your bathroom! I’ve just had an identical mirror arrived today but need to return for a larger 800mm version in case you can recommend?

Thank you. Ours is the 600mm version of the Drench Harbour Status mirror. Been in situ for about 18 months now & it's honestly my favourite part of the room.

BlueMooMoo · 28/06/2022 03:26

Having my second major wobble. I think our second bedroom is too small or I've installed triple switch lights that won't be used. There's nothing I can do now as the room is finished plastered painted second fixed. There is only going to be room for one piece of furniture in one specific place.
The plan was for it to grow with dc but there's no room for a desk.
I know it's a first world problem, I do know. Just feeling a bit annoyed at myself for not realising sooner (as I measured for furniture tonight) how tight the bedroom will be once a bed goes in and a bit sick of spending all this money for such a small room. I'm going to draw out different bed positions tomorrow to see if there is a better layout but it does mean I've specced triple switches that won't be used. Argh.

DarlingCoffee · 28/06/2022 04:22

Can I just say ooooh!! Love the statement mirror @AwkwardPaws27 your bathroom looks fab. Noted also re VP @JoanDarc thanks. Sorry to
hear about your second bedroom @BlueMooMoo would a fold out wall mounted desk work?

Sewfrickinamazeballs · 28/06/2022 08:17

@JoanDarc Painting behind radiators is my life at the moment! Plumbers are coming Thursday to get all the rads working and balance the system ready for sign off (yay). Bathroom has had three different colours so far as I didn't like any of them (don't buy paint at 7am). Just two more to do. We are also just doing the bits behind the rads but with 14 of them it's taking ages so we are absolutely shattered (hence been a bit quiet here).

Did manage to fit the mural for the downstairs loo late last night. She's not everyone's cup of tea but I looooove it!

Bathrooms, I went with a Waters bath (love it, great quality and looks amazing), easy bathrooms shower screen, drench shower tray, cross water taps and ideal standard sinks. Sourced from all over the place back when in the year when there was time to sit at the laptop for ages.

Also avoided Victoria plum due to hearing similar issues with quality

I was very disappointed when the fireplace arrived last night too, we removed the chimney, threw a cast iron fireplace away and instead put in a flimsy looks very understatement in real life fireplace. Will be thinking today if I should change my mind about it.

BlueMooMoo · 28/06/2022 09:30

Re bathrooms, we sourced all over (designer bathrooms and sanctuary bathrooms) but broadly went
Kudos shower trays
Crosswater shower screens
Aqualisa showers
Burlington sanityware and hardware
Victorian plumbing bathroom furniture

Feeling a little bit better about the bedroom. Things always feel a bit dramatic at 3am. @DarlingCoffee thank you. That's a great idea and will definitely be looking at multiuse furniture. Ikea is looking like the solution with some of their narrow ranges. I really wanted it to be suitable for a young adult allowing them their own space whilst living with parents. An issue for a while away, and who knows maybe they'll flee the nest early!

NewHouseNewMe · 28/06/2022 09:56

What are the dimensions @BlueMooMoo ? I think all rooms look small without furniture in them anyhow so it could be that. Even my master seems small, despite the wardrobes being taken out to a new walk-in and it always seemed big when it had furniture!

@Newhome321 is it fitted? Hard to tell before.. Wonder if you can advise if there’s a smell from the fuel? I have read varying reports.

BlueMooMoo · 28/06/2022 10:57

@Sewfrickinamazeballs love the mural. I nearly went with one similar but in a chinoiserie style but the budget had to have its say so maybe something I can do in future years.
@Newhome321 has the wall it is sitting on been painted etc.? Maybe it might look different. Sorry it wasn't quite what you had in mind.

BlueMooMoo · 28/06/2022 11:03

@NewHouseNewMe I think on paper it seems fine (3.6x2.9) but door/radiator placement is making it tricky. Part of it is we've always had largish bedrooms so this room previously could fit 2 double beds in it happily but we stole to add an ensuite and it just feels so much tighter with 1.5m taken out of it even though we've added ceiling height. I think it's one of only 2issues I've had with the architects drawings where even though they included a bed it definitely doesn't seem proportionate to the size it will actually take in the room.

Newhome321 · 28/06/2022 12:17

It hasnt been fitted yet as the wall hasnt been painted, I will be having fitted shelves next to it on the 2 sides. I got home quite late last night so plan to have a good look at it this afternoon to decide. My friend has bioethanol fireplace and swears by it and we want something looks real. If we keep it, I will report.

GardensandGrandDesigns · 28/06/2022 19:37

Garage and alleyway roof removed today and extension brick work finished! Finally finally making it to phase 2 where the builders demolish inside. Bring on the roof!! Then they are removing the chimney on every floor so we can move our stairs. Exciting!

AwkwardPaws27 · 28/06/2022 23:16

Kitchen is here!
The cats think it's a giant climbing frame and are having a great time 😁

Very exciting @AwkwardPaws27 !

this is our case for the radiator, it was supposed to hang in the wall without visible pipes.

Newhome321 · 29/06/2022 09:27

Now looking at the wall and realised that the switch wasnt the same as the rest of the house, need to check with the electrician.

AwkwardPaws27 · 29/06/2022 10:48

It is all go here today. Baby & I are stuck in the bedroom again (all day yesterday too, as they were replacing the bannister and spindles on the stairs).
We have the kitchen fitters, plumbers, electricians, and our delayed patio doors have just turned up so the head builder is here overseeing that.
Very exciting but also a bit overwhelming today.
I have an appointment with baby this afternoon, it is meant to be a home visit (!) but I've asked if we can meet at their office instead as I doubt we'll be able to hear each other with the noise here!

nomoneytreehere · 29/06/2022 11:42

@BlueMooMoo, we wre having similar issues but with our master bedroom. Now that they are about to out the internal walls up it seems that where the bed goes is only 3m wide. Which is too small for a superking bed and bedside tables.

Its meant to be just under 4m but someone got it wrong as we need to borrow a tiny bit for a wardrobe in another room.

Luckily its all been sort of solveable but i realised that the architects plans had double beds everywhere not superking and it kakes a difference to walk around space.

Im really panicking thet we are spending all this money and the master will be rubbish.

BlueMooMoo · 30/06/2022 15:52

It's hard isn't it? It works as a guest bedroom fine but not quite as a young adult suite.
You live and learn and to anyone reading make sure you ask the architect the specs of the drawings furniture and double check everything yourself and include a 1m corridor.

How's everyone's this week's todo lists going?
We are hopefully 2weeks away from having a working bathroom.
Had an issue with a mosiac tile delivery so have ordered express from Fired Earth now
Decided scope of garden/landscaping works - new patio and tidying up only. Turf, pergola, cabin, new shed all postponed until minimum next spring
3 sets of curtains ordered. If they're as good as they look once they arrive I'll share the company here and happy to DM discount code (I don't get anything, purely to save money on purchase for you). Presales service so far has been great.

LivingInaBuildingSite · 30/06/2022 21:16

Definitely agree with checking actual measurements on architects pictures. Our loft rooms were much smaller in reality than I was led to believe.

Dust ongoing. Sigh.

But progress is happening:

Still to do:

They still have parts of the hallway to tackle, including taking out the old under stairs loo and wall to allow the hallway floor to flow under the stairs

Plus the original old sash window halfway up the stairs hasn’t reappeared from the window people yet - window frame is onsite, glass is not yet.

soundproofing on the party wall - ✅

skirting around the whole rear and side extensions - started

painting

last electrics (some switches and sockets still to go in)

repainting the old front door and patio door

security lighting & cameras

wall mount the big tv - mount is here

hang 3 new internal doors - 1 ✅ so far

granite worktop guy to fit pantry, utility and hearth

sink in utility to be fitted - on site

patio to be tiled

patio glass balustrade put in (not ordered yet)

sure there’s more but to be followed with a deep post build clean

BlueMooMoo · 30/06/2022 21:28

@Newhome321 is the radiator meant to look like that? It's quite an unusual fitting.

@LivingInaBuildingSite it's disappointing isn't it, especially when you communicate clearly with the architect your wishes. Sounds like lots going on for you though. Last big push! 😂

GardensandGrandDesigns · 30/06/2022 22:27

Don't get me started on architects, ours is rubbish.

Had a lovely day today in a local city walking around all the high end kitchen and bathroom shops in the name of research. Nice to get away from the noise of the chimney being removed!!

GardensandGrandDesigns · 30/06/2022 22:29

Love this Tom Howley worktop!

HouseyHouse21 · 30/06/2022 23:25

Our architect mismeasured as well, and was generally useless.

Ok progress being made here - our UFH is down and screed dried. Patio half tiled, electrics planned, and expecting plasterers, half the doors and rooflights next week, fingers crossed.

I'm having a bit of buyer's remorse over the kitchen I chose - read a few reviews grumbling about the fingerprints that the dark grey handleless units attract. But I'm sure I'll be so relieved once it's all done that I won't mind too much for a while 🤷‍♀️

HouseyHouse21 · 30/06/2022 23:30

@GaGardensandGrandDesigns that is gorgeous!! Is that the sort of thing you're thinking of?
