@BlueMooMoo those tiles are lush. About £10 psm cheaper than the mandarin ones too. We have around 100sqm downstairs......

I haven't heard of that supplier before. Have they been good so far?

BlueMooMoo · 15/06/2022 11:37

@nomoneytreehere well the samples came quickly and I've changed the delivery date for our order (70sqm) twice and they've been good so far. I can let you know when they arrive though (Monday) if all is OK.
Yes I was impressed with the price point although delivery is steep.

Newhome321 · 15/06/2022 14:35

So true!

Newhome321 · 15/06/2022 14:36

@nomoneytreehere I think renovation is actually a succession of compromises and hoping you don't run out of money.

Never a truer word spoken!

I mean this statement, so so true!

nomoneytreehere · 15/06/2022 14:58

For reasons I don't understand at all our kitchen appears to be 30cm narrower than it's meant to be. I think the architect failed to measure the thickness of the existing walls. I'm having kittens that the island isn't going to fit......

BlueMooMoo · 15/06/2022 14:59

@nomoneytreehere oh no! Is it a double cabinet width island? Could you change the backing ones to 30cm depth instead of 60cm?

nomoneytreehere · 15/06/2022 15:18

It's the width. I started off wanting a 3 m island but we decided to go for a u shape with a 2.4m island. They sprayed the floor today with the plan and we seem to have lost width (maybe they didn't build it big enough). I want one of the big fisher &paykel fridges on the side and the position of the island is tight. The walls have been built and windows etc ordered so I can't turn the kitchen now. Arrrghhh I'll try and post a picture of what I mean.

HouseyHouse21 · 15/06/2022 15:33

@Sewfrickinamazeballs I'm with you on wanting the house back now, lovely as our builders are. But yes, gratitude is so important - that day will come and what a luxury it will be to potter around in a quiet, empty & finished house!

@GardensandGrandDesigns I thought I'd made a decision on floors but my head has been turned - yours are stunning. I've set myself a cap of £50/sqm though, and I'm going for a lacquered rather than oiled finish. Might find myself fiddling with my spreadsheet tonight, to see if I can squeeze it in!

nomoneytreehere · 15/06/2022 17:07

Stone super store have already shipped the samples
I ordered @BlueMooMoo - pretty impressive. Thank you for the link x

LivingInaBuildingSite · 15/06/2022 17:15

Have only skim read through trying to keep up.

tiler has been busy, hopefully pic attached. Can’t walk on them overnight, so dinner will be on laps or floor as all furniture in a heap!

I think you can definitely get the plank version of my one for £50sqm. I'm currently negotiating between 2 flooring stores on the same road who both stock it and one was 1k cheaper on first quote.

JoanDarc · 15/06/2022 22:29

Yes yes to getting our house back. Our builder are lovely, the owner is a friend but having lots of activity in the house from 8am is taking its toll. Especially now we’re down to one bathroom so has even interfered with my WFH lunch runs as doing want to shower block the only working bathroom! 🙈
Love seeing the pictures @BlueMooMoo the en-suite tiles look gorgeous. I’d fallen in love with the antique marble tiles (slightly longer /thinner than a metro tile) and had designed the en-suite around them with a complementing tile, could have cried when they cancelled order due to stock. Have now went for Indic from porcelonosa which looks lovely but I’m less excited about. (DH loved it though)
I’m now at the point of settling/ compromising as I’ve not got energy/ time to find alternative solutions. (Think you said similar upthread @AwkwardPaws27 )
I was really excited to do a pocket door slide/hide for one of our 1000mm larder units but builder has investigated further and confirmed we couldn’t as not an in frame door and standard Howdens cabinet door wouldn’t fit, gutted as was so excited about it, but need to focus on how great it will all be regardless of small compromises.
Pink sink porn alert!! For downstairs wc, sink from Victoria plum (1st pic with mint tiles), will be on an oak floating shelf (reclaimed from our former breakfast bar by our joiner), brass wall mounted tap/exposed waste trap. Looking to tile half height past the taps on sink wall only with a small tile. Considering white/ shades of Green/ pink with either white or khaki base terrazzo floor tile. DH completely bemused by this. He’s very scandi in design, but I’m pleased you lot enabled me. I’m sure it will look lovely.

**don't want to….
Damn autocorrect! Better get back to buying radiator valves now, anyone else forget to order these! 🙈

NewHouseNewMe · 16/06/2022 07:28

Well it seems that my builders and roofers are now heroes of the street after an elderly neighbour fell at home and managed to call for their attention.
They got him to a seat, called an ambulance and relative, and basically looked after him.
Just as well we have some goodwill as the number of vans on-site has exploded: yesterday we had roofers (still!), tilers, electricians and a floorer visited too. The day before it was all the above and building control, except the floor guy. Poor neighbours!

NewHouseNewMe · 16/06/2022 07:31

Sadly I couldn’t get any support here (3 v 1) for a pink sink but this is what I wanted..

I love that Miami vibe @NewHouseNewMe

nomoneytreehere · 16/06/2022 14:04

I think I have solved the island problem and we are hopefully back to a width of 2.4m on the island. Builder has to shave a bit off of our really thick internal wall....

The space is really starting to take shape now and I'm starting to get really excited about it all.

There were about 20 men (honestly not exaggerating) on site this morning. It's going to be an expensive week.

Yellownotblue · 16/06/2022 17:21

So jealous of all your progress, tiles and pink sinks 😁. I also couldn’t get anyone on board for a pink sink, but I’m exacting my sweet revenge with shades of pinks in lots of rooms...

Newhome321 · 16/06/2022 18:12

So someone made a crack in the £2.7k stone bath that we realised today when the plumber came and assessed( it was brought up safely last week so must have been only during the week). Then the toilet is broken as well during delivery and we have passed 30days since delivery with Victorian plumbing so I dont know whats next. So hard to stay upbeat these days, I think I should just stop posting so that not to pull everyone down as well.

BlueMooMoo · 16/06/2022 18:41

@newhome321 I'm so sorry. It's been so stressful for you. Please continue to post - we all have highs and lows.
Is the crack repairable at all?
Do you have a partner? Can they help take on some of the mental and admin burden? Dealing with complaints or giving them a room that they need to project manage?

BlueMooMoo · 16/06/2022 18:42

Adore the pink sinks @joandarc @newhouse! Beautiful.

Newhome321 · 16/06/2022 18:54

The good(or bad) thing is my husband doesnt really mind(or care) about these things. He takes toll on other stuffs for me and leave the project to me completely, he is also the one that could be easily pleased. I do actually prefer it this way and wont leave it to him either. Just logged off at work now and headed home to assess the damage. The decision I need to make is whether I want to continue with the fitting date next week or wait and get things exchanged/replaced. The bath def will have to stay chipped forever as it would be too much to bring it down now. The splashback of the mable basin unit is also broken. Both the toilet and the basin unit are bought from Victorianblumbing and we didnt check when they arrived. Serious doubt about their stuffs now. Will need to check soms other stuffs this weekend.

LivingInaBuildingSite · 16/06/2022 18:56

@Newhome321 oh no! There will be a solution, somewhere, and this will be a story to look back on. One day.

Had 7 guys here today causing more chaos, but progress too.
2 have started building the utility stuff from Howdens, DH very happy that I changed to add the second dishwasher, sure I’ll never hear the end of it now!😂
2 electricians doing whatever they do under the floor. Lots of moved and installed light switches. My main bespoke 8-gang one in the kitchen hasn’t gone in yet, hopefully soon. Bespoke makes it sound super fancy, I just wanted it to match what I already had and they didn’t make an 8.
also a plumber dunno what he was doing, not installing the downstairs loo which is currently sat in the pantry 🤷‍♀️
ds1 has inspected it and judged it a successful shape (remember good loos for poos discussion?) so we await the christening 😂😂

The tiler cracked on but….opened a new pallet of tiles to find they are a different colour. That’s 44 tiles we can’t use. I have rung the tile company and left a message. I meant to anyway as one packet (of 2 tiles) came damaged. I still have to get the outdoor ones delivered so hoping it can all be combined - and they take away the wrong ones 🤞

Joining the DC in post swimming McDs as can’t walk on most of the kitchen floor this evening. 🍔 🍟 luckily the wine fridge is plugged in in the hallway 🥂
