@LazyDoll is there anything you are particularly drawn towards? Or does it change everyday?
Pink is the primary colour running throughout my house so I have every faith in you!

AwkwardPaws27 · 07/06/2022 19:41

Not very happy this evening!
Our bathroom delivery was due between 5-7pm. At 7.02pm I get another email saying it's coming at 10pm!
I'm tempted to have a bit of a strop about it; we have a newborn, & now we are going to have to deal with a pallet delivery in the dark (not to mention I think its really unfair on our neighbours to start unloading a delivery at 10pm).
Customer services closed at 5pm so I can't reschedule - do you think I can refuse the delivery and ask them to bring it in the morning instead, or do we just deal with it and complain afterwards?

Deep breathes. At least the screed is done on the kitchen floor.

Newhome321 · 07/06/2022 21:22

@AwkwardPaws27 I would have too even I didnt have a new born. Fingers crossed they come.
I have had water softener sorted out with Harvey’s today.
My electrician is asking what kind of sockets, switches and extractor fan for bathroom. Our previous ones were terrible, extremely noisy. Which one would you recommend. I have thought of all things however never thought of switches and sockets. Which ones do you have?

LazyDoll · 07/06/2022 21:30

BlueMooMoo it DOES change pretty frequently but this I like at the minute…could be all change by the time we’re ready to order a kitchen though!

@Newhome321 sorry to hear about your builder strife ☹️ are you paying a % for project management? If so I recommend spending it on weekly full body massages. Keep going, will be worth it 👍😄

Newhome321 · 07/06/2022 22:48

Yeah, indeed @GardensandGrandDesigns

We have instructed the decorator on Oxford white Benjamin Moore for all rooms, I love seeing bold colour however still not too sure if I’d be brave enough to live in one.

Still so much to do for us: bathrooms, plaster, 2nd fix, decorations, flooring. Really dont know what did we do the last 3.5 months.

JoanDarc · 08/06/2022 00:09

Congratulations on your gorgeous bundle 😍 @AwkwardPaws27!! I’m in awe of you balancing a new born & build!
Welcome @LazyDoll @SheriffCallie I found the extension boards invaluable throughout planning stage, didn’t post much though till it started, was drinking it all in before!

So thanks to @BlueMooMoo @GardensandGrandDesigns for the push! I’ve purchased the pink sink and so pleased I did! Currently trying to find suitable tiles to work with it, found a khaki terrazzo with pink flecks that looks gorgeous for the floor.
Builders are pressing ahead, plasterers arriving Monday so this week it’s all about putting up walls, walls (and floor). Hopefully the base units will be installed end of next week and I can at least get a working oven. My sink and hob will be a few weeks off due to quartz templating.
The knock through for our master bedroom happened while we were away last week. It looks great but there is dust everywhere!
I’ve been busy ordering bathrooms, radiators and trying to find tiles. Really struggling to commit with each decision, fear of FOMO for something I’ve not yet seen and paying over the odds are paralysing the decision making process. I’m exhausting myself sitting down at 10pm after a busy day of work/kids to then start researching online & pour over Instagram for inspiration/ information. Finding it really hard to switch off, the whole experience is exciting and exhausting in equal measure. I’m sure I’m not alone in this.
@NewHouseNewMe for Amtico, I like the look of sun bleached oak/worn ash/ Eden oak. I need go into a showroom this weekend to have a proper look.

AwkwardPaws27 · 08/06/2022 08:55

I swear I'm not hallucinating from newborn sleep deprivation.

AwkwardPaws27 · 08/06/2022 08:58

AwkwardPaws27 · 08/06/2022 08:55

I swear I'm not hallucinating from newborn sleep deprivation.

I also swear I wrote a whole post & Mumsnet ate it!

I woke up at 5am, heard a noise, thought it was the cats and was just going back to sleep when I remembered they are in the fancy cat hotel.

At which point my bedroom door opened on its own...

It was a fox! It stood there looking at me until I elbowed DH & he leapt out of bed in surprise.

I'd usually find something like this amusing but with a newborn in the house I'm not impressed. Job number 1 today is covering up all remaining holes in the walls!

Littlemissweepy · 08/06/2022 11:59

😱

NewHouseNewMe · 08/06/2022 12:02

You must check out @Sewfrickinamazeballs Bond Villain kitchen from earlier on that thread @LazyDoll . Colourful and AMAZING..

@AwkwardPaws27 Yeah that would have sent me over the edge, I’d have collapsed to find the door opening 😳Foxes everywhere here but it doesn’t mean I want them in the house!

Our tin roof is off and much of the scaffolding is down. For the first time we can see the view from the attic and it’s lovely: green trees everywhere and skyline. Barely a house to be seen, in Summer at least.

Yellownotblue · 08/06/2022 15:31

@AwkwardPaws27 congratulations on your baby! And 😱 about the fox. We’ve had a fox in the kitchen before, but to find one in the bedroom would be a lot worse.

@BlueMooMoo @JoanDarc I love colour too! We’ve got gorgeous olive greens and setting plaster pink lined up for various rooms. DH is colour blind, and sees pinks as grays, so I’m sneaking lots of pink tiles in various bathrooms as he won’t know the difference 😁.

JoanDarc · 08/06/2022 15:53

@AwkwardPaws27 I would have been paralysed! We had a bird flying about the extended area just before it was made fully watertight. Got the fright of my life.

@Yellownotblue love Olive Green and pink combos. 😍 I’ve just ordered a selection of terrazzo tiles including one that I think may be too dark an olive green but it has beautiful pink flecks in it. Considering for my downstairs wc floor.

BlueMooMoo · 08/06/2022 16:40

@LazyDoll love that. I've picked green smoke for the bathroom furniture and can't wait to see it installed.
@Newhome321 hopefully the next 3. 5 months is all systems go for you.
@AwkwardPaws27 gosh that must have been such a shock. How horrible. Is putting a chain on the bedroom door a cheap short term option?
@JoanDarc hurray! The choice and confirmation can be overwhelming. I haven't found it stressful so far but just very hard work. I think I try and look at it big picture and that it's a very lucky position to be in but I know sometimes that doesn't come so easily when you're in the middle of it all. I don't know if it helps but you could always ring/contact the suppliers to ask if they do price matching before the order gets delivered - that way you won't feel like you missed out on a good deal.
@NewHouseNewMe sounds idyllic.
@Yellownotblue @JoanDarc Green and pink is such a gorgeous combo - I have Middleton pink with emerald green in our living room. I saw those tiles as well Joan but ended up going for boutiquestone.co.uk/product/eccitare-terrazzo-porcelain-ivory which I'm pairing with dead salmon

DarlingCoffee · 08/06/2022 18:28

We are researching tiles for the wet room
here while i look out the window at the pouring rain and lament the lack of progress outside - and I would welcome any advice on the type of tile to go for! Is porcelain our best bet? I also love the terrazzo style tiles for the floor.

Yellownotblue · 08/06/2022 20:22

@DarlingCoffee Mandarin stone have lots of terrazzo effect porcelain tiles. I’ve chosen these ones for one of our shower rooms www.mandarinstone.com/product/zappa-pink-porcelain/

GardensandGrandDesigns · 08/06/2022 20:23

I am loving those terrazzo tiles, I definitely want them in our downstairs loo!

GardensandGrandDesigns · 08/06/2022 20:25

Also I couldn't sleep last night and the security light at the front kept going off so I got up and there was a massive fox in the front garden. If that turned up in my bedroom I would have screamed the house down!

Newhome321 · 08/06/2022 20:46

Beautiful tiles, makes me want to change my mind.

I would be screaming seeing the fox standing in the room in the middle of the night too. Didnt sleep well for loads of reasons so completely shattered when got home tonight. Wont check on things tonight. Would just be an early night for me tonight.

Sewfrickinamazeballs · 08/06/2022 22:18

@AwkwardPaws27 Blimey. Hope it doesn't happen again. Must have been scary, especially with the newborn. Hope that's all going ok.

@NewHouseNewMe thanks WinkBond villain kitchens could be the next 'thing'! I've just had my hallway light installed. The photo doesn't do it justice but I flippin love it! Leads nicely into said kitchen.

Loads more plastering done today. Does feel like we are living in a bag of icing sugar but hopefully Friday will be the end of it. Floor is being latexed Saturday and flooring laid from Monday! Can't wait. Neither can the cat who has gone from being jet black to a nice shade of grey since being home!

I wrote a long post that went poof into thin air.

Long story short:
congratulations @AwkwardPaws27

not much progress here this week, hoping for higher walls in the next week or so. There seems to be a bizarre ‘floor’ focus going on and lots of string being strung🤔

DarlingCoffee · 09/06/2022 06:45

Thanks @Yellownotblue your tiles look beautiful. Off to check out Mandarin Stone now to order more samples!!

AwkwardPaws27 · 09/06/2022 09:43

We picked our dog up last night (in-laws very kindly looked after him while we got settled) & the builders have made sure the temporary "walls" have no gaps now, so we are a Fox-Free Zone.

The kitchen floor screed is drying nicely, builders are walking on it so must be good. So strange how much of a difference it makes to be able to see the floor all at one level, you can really get a sense of the space now.

Apparently the downstairs bathroom should be plastered by the end of the week, tiler coming next week & the suite is rebooted for delivery tomorrow so that's all very exciting.

The kitchen, hallway and study are partially plasterboarded; there's a bit more to do there but making progress. We need to nail down flooring choices etc (we're having glue down Karndean but need to finalise on colours), I think I'll take the samples we like to Howdens to see them next to the kitchen doors before making a final decision.

I still haven't ordered appliances as I'm so tired I'm liable to order completely the wrong thing!

GardensandGrandDesigns · 09/06/2022 19:54

The walls are getting very tall now 😁 next decision should we amend our building reg drawings to make the new bedroom a vaulted ceiling hmm...
