Is this to much for a Water Bill

I'm paying £49 a month with Yorkshire Water (not on a meter). My ex moved out just over a year ago, so it's just me and my 3 year old now and so we use alot less water than we used to. I was just wondering if this sounds like too much??

You can't just demand a meter - the company has to agree to put it in, and I can't see them agreeing to it if it's going to lose them money.

Unless already said, go to your water suppliers website , you can have your bill reduced .
I was paying £57pm with united utilities. Now £30 pm as only 2 adults.
Failing them give them a ring and ask for a bill adjustment

SynchroSwimmer · 06/05/2022 15:19

Mine is £7 a month - and they are overcharging
should be around £5
no sewerage
Thames Water suggested on my latest bill that I haven’t had a cup of tea or a bath since last November - based on my usage 😂

Bluebellbike · 06/05/2022 15:22

I thought you could have a meter installed and have the option to go back to water rates after a year if it doesn't save you money?

nearlyspringyay · 06/05/2022 15:25

We're on a compulsory meter and our bills have gone down. Thames or southeastern, not sure.

darlingdodo · 06/05/2022 16:21

Bluebellbike, we've just applied for a meter and were told we could revert back to paying water rates if we wanted to at a later date.

that has not been my experience. they are v keen to fit a meter; they have targets to conserve water, save the planet etc.
my payments are about a third of what they were previously.
they also said after a year to compare, can go back to rates if i wish. don't think i will...

Mines about £25 a month for me and my OH and I work from home most of the week.

Shgytfgtf111 · 06/05/2022 16:31

I have a meter.

MaisyMary77 · 06/05/2022 16:32

Wow. Think I’m going to apply for a meter! We’re paying £70 a month for 3 of us. Thames water.

Have you checked for leaks, are a very large household, (wasteful with water perhaps Confused)?

We are also Wessex Water on a meter. Family of 5, 5 bed house. Bills are approx £350 every 6 months, so would be £58 per month.

No leaks, we do have shower/baths for kids daily and don't yet have a dishwasher so use a lot of water washing up etc...... not a big family at all, We moved from Bournemouth water to Wessex and it is so much more expensive.

We are currently paying a little bit more to pay off the debt we accrued as they set our direct debit a little low (was £46 a month). I think normally we would need to pay about £68 a month to not owe them any money.

Not true! They fall over themselves to give people meters! This is why if you move into a house that doesn't have a meter they can make you have a meter legally.

CRbear · 06/05/2022 18:41

Agree with all those saying your water company will fall over themselves to give you a meter. There are huge pressures on them to manage demand and that is one of the key ways they do it. It’s compulsory under most circumstances in London and will be in the east before long. I work for a water company.

Lulu1919 · 06/05/2022 18:42

Ours is £1000 a year
Dorset
No meter

jay55 · 06/05/2022 18:44

90 for 6months, live alone.

bbqhulahoop · 06/05/2022 18:44

I need to look into a meter. Our bill is almost £800 per year but lots goes towards upkeep of the beaches

rainbowandglitter · 06/05/2022 18:51

3 adults and a tween and £99 pm

HighlandCowbag · 06/05/2022 18:54

Mine is £50 pcm with Yorkshire water on a meter. Family of 4, washing machine and dishwasher used regularly.

I would be cautious about a meter tbh, ours is a new build so no choice. If your circumstances change like new partner and more dcs you will end up paying more than rated I think.

Incacat2 · 06/05/2022 19:02

We are with Anglian Water - 5, sometimes 6 of us and we pay 1100 a year. The water is so hard that it wrecks every appliance in the house. We need to get a water softener attached, but cannot afford it due to the ridiculously high bills.

MG99 · 15/05/2022 10:44

There's two adults in my house and since being on a water meter, our water costs (Severn Trent water) are just less than £20 per month.

FourTeaFallOut · 15/05/2022 10:47

We are on a meter and at £54/month for the 5 of us with Northumbrian Water.

TulipPpo · 15/05/2022 12:28

It's based on the rateable value of your house so it sounds correct. I pay the same.
