How can we make our bungalow totally astonishing?

We've bought a little house, a doer upper.
Its bare bones at the moment.
Can anyone recommend something totally amazing we can do with the decor which would make it really special?

One idea was to paint it all one colour inside and out, or weird and wacky interior schemes. We're open to anything, we just want to make it totally different. Most interior inspo I've come across is all about large properties. Thank you :-)
What's a radical thing we can do with it? Thanks!

What about exposed brickwork somewhere? Can look really good. Pinterest is your friend!

Why does it have to be radical. Why don't you just decorate it in a style you like.

Personally I like all one colour inside if it's small but I'm quite minimalist (and boring it's white😂 with stripped wooden floors and natural materials) however the outside of my mid terrace is a different colour to everybody else's. I was behind a little boy with is dad the other day coming back from the shops and he said 'look its the bit like a rainbow'....... Made me smile🌈😍

Have a giraffe live in it with head poking through roof?

Bungalows make great loft apartments with big open doors to the back. Do the front exterior all twee and cottagey then inside like a cool city pad.

I like boho style interiors :)

You want one of large sculptures crashing into the room, like a shark maybe?
Obviously the shark 🦈 has been done but there must be other suitable animals, a giant squid?

I would try to keep it as it meant to look. When was it built? Take whatever design ideas you like from that decade and just really run with it. So if it's a 50's bungalow you buy all mid-century furniture, wallpaper the walls with bold wallpaper, wood panelled walls etc.

I was going to say this. Can't believe someone else got in there first 😂

What do you mean radical? Do you want funky? Cool? Elegant? Beautiful? Eclectic?

don’t do radical for the sake of it. Do something you love. So you need to decide what style you like.

so I live in a period property, I have some very expensive and beautiful wallpapers that fit the period but would be considered brave I guess, and I have a lot of antiques, quirky shit I find in antique shops or online mainly.

So many things I’ve realised are a talking point. Visitors comment on things in a oh wow, look at that kind of way and peer at things. My husband actually commented yesterday that he felt I was making the house “too unique” , but I think that’s a positive.

so decide what you like, and then people can advise. The only thing I’d say is keep in line with the age of the property or after , so from when it was built and you can go forward to today in terms of style , but going back in time from before it was built seldom works

I'd say go with your heart & give each room one talking point.

@Sd352
That cottage looks amazing.
It's a shame I don't live in the UK otherwise I'd be tempted to book it.

Remove the ceilings and expose the rafters.

Have seen this done to stunning effect, but you would need to make sure you have enough storage to lose the loft space.

katcatkat · 01/05/2022 16:10

Look and who is going to buy it make sure its suitable for mobility impairment older couples who would pay more for a suitable of future proof property.
2 bed bungalows in nice condition with a walk in shower go for a premium round here with downsizers moving out of larger family houses especially if they are near shops bus routes.

My mum just did up a bungalow and made a pile of cash on it. She marketed it to young people and the buyer was a first time buyer.

What's the layout?
