Advice on home and interiors magazine subscription!

If you are/have been a subscriber to an interiors or home and garden magazine, which ones would you recommend and which ones would you avoid?

We are considering a wrap around ground floor extension and refurb of both floors of our home and haven’t had much experience of doing this. Ideally, we’d like interiors ideas and a magazine that also features extensions (if there is such a thing).

Thanks in advance Mumsnetters.

Why don’t you just Google and follow folks in Instagram and Facebook etc?

I can digitally borrow magazines from my library through an app for free. There are hundreds of magazines from all different countries. You can also see back issues.

I would subscribe to Readly and look at them on there tbh. You'd probably save money overall and you can screenshot ideas and pin them on Pinterest.

Good advice already - and will save you money! There are various apps too - suggest you look at the Houzz app.

Thanks for the suggestions on approach to gathering ideas online…

So, which profiles or publications or sites/pages do you suggest we follow for good ideas presented well??

I second the Readly recommendation, loads of different titles on their and you have access to all of the back copies too

I don't think a magazine sub is the way to go if you want specific, immediate suggestions. I read interiors magazines for general interest and ideas, as you never know what they will include in each issue. I agree you'd be better off looking at apps/social media.

If you have Kindle Unlimited you can eat many magazines for free. I really like 25 Beautiful Homes for realistic renovation ideas.

ohidoliketobe · 30/04/2022 08:17

There's so many, have a read of a few different ones on readly or kindle unlimited and see which ones appeals more to your style and budget.
Off the top of my head

  • County Living
  • 25 Beautiful Homes
  • Ideal Home
  • Your Home
  • Home Style
  • Style at Home
  • House Beautiful
  • Real Homes
  • Good Homes

What age is your home, and what kind of style do you like? It's probably worth having a quick browse in a shop to see which magazines appeal most. If you do, can I politely ask that you also buy one from the shop, shop based retailers need our business. I like the Home building and Renovating magazine, but that's slightly more aimed at major renovations. There's also a similar one called Self-build something.

Another vote for Readly, I love it. Plus you'll also get access to just about every other magazine going.
I think they do a free trial to test it. You can save mags to your favourites and then it just loads them as soon as new issues come out. You'd only need to have bought two print issues to have made your money back on it.

Oooh! I’m quite excited now. I’m glad I asked for advice as it seems there’s a lot out there that could be useful. Thanks!

Our house is a 1950s detached. One of a row of several with the same design. Most have done something similar in extending at the front and back but as we plan to stay for a very long time we want to be sure we make the adjustments which are going to suit how we live. I like cosy and my partner prefers open plan :D

There will be numerous accounts on Instagram where people have done the same thing. Would suggest searching for people who are showing their renovation progress
