We are having a new kitchen fitted which is very exciting :) We thought we had decided on a John Lewis single oven until over the weekend a couple of friends were saying how much they loved their steam ovens. Any thoughts/recommendations? Also wrt induction hobs and combi oven/microwaves. Thanks.

We have Siemens - induction hob and double oven and they are fab. I would be concerned a steam oven would be a fad but that said I don’t cook much meat.

I have an Elica NikolaTesla Switch venting induction hob, and it's honestly the best thing since sliced bread!

Thanks Had I haven't come across this brand but sounds very exciting :) How is it so much better than previous hobs you've had?

We have 2 x Neff sliding door ovens, 2 x Neff warming drawers & a Bora induction hob. We love all of them and would recommend all to anyone.

I really wanted a Bora, but the wait time was just too much 😞

2* neff slide and hide n90 low spec standard ovens
1* neff steam oven
1* neff microwave
1* neff induction hob (not the internet enabled one) with a fuckoff huge automatic extractor hood (we completely rejigged an intended design that required a downdraft Bora thing because it can't extract quickly enough for the size of kitchen - worth checking if your room is big)

Use all of them. Steam oven is a faff unless you're doing steam supported rather than pure steaming. However, if you can be bothered with the faff of the clean up it does awesome fish, potatoes and veg. It's a bit gimmicky. Not sure I'd bother again, or I've tried the standard ovens with steam and they don't do full steam cooking so seem a bit pointless (I'm happy to roast without steam).

Induction is everyday happiness. I like the wee "p" button that makes everything fast. Not sure my leccy bill likes it though!

If you're using the extra power to bring things to the boil quickly, it shouldn't hurt your wallet. The energy needed to boil a pan of water is what it is, and doing it slowly should really take more energy, because the hot-but-not-yet-boiling water will be constantly losing heat to its surroundings.
