We have recently bought a house and there is a plot of land behind our garden which is owned by the neighbouring property, but a separate entity on the land registry. This land is sandwiched between other people's gardens so wouldn't be viable for a developer, for example, to buy and build on. It also has covenants on it restricting building etc, so it is only really of interest to any of the owners of properties who adjoin it as only useful for garden space. We have found out the owner passed a way quite a while back and this plot isn't being maintained. What would be acceptable way to approach the son of the owner to say we would be interested in buying the land if he ever wanted to sell it on. Obviously, we don't want to be vultures and offend him, but on the other hand, we do want him to know we would be interested if he ever did want to sell that piece of the land and obviously would give him a fair price for it. Is it ok to send him a letter basically saying, if you ever want to sell the land please keep us in mind? Or is that really rude?
