What paperwork do I need to apply for a mortgage?

How many months do you have to have been employed in your current job for to qualify?

Paperwork:

  • copies of several payslips or a statement of service from your employer, stating how long you have been working there, your role, FT or PT, permanent or casual and salary

  • ip to 6 months worth of statements for any bank account or credit card you hold. If the bank account or credit card is with the bank you are applying to mortgage with, you may not need to provide them as they can access them

  • copies of any other loan or lease documents eg car loan, personal loan, mobster car lease

  • proof of any other significant assets you want them to take into account

  • and then the bank will ask you to fill out forms allowing them to do credit checks and asking about your average expenditure etc

  • depends on the bank. It can also depend on how long you were in your previous job, as that may make you seem steady, but a history of short employment won’t.

*notated not mobster!

Doubt there’d be much paperwork for a mobster car loan 😄

We had to give 3 months bank statements and payslips, I think that was it. Also we had a gift as part of the deposit and there was paperwork to sign for that.

For my first mortgage, I think I had to show my
passport.

Oh that sounds nice and simple.

I keep asking for my permanent contract as I was offered a permanent job when someone else left but they haven't got round to it yet annoyingly so. I have asked twice. However I do have a few payslips

It’s lender specific as to what proof of income.

some will take contract workers, some want you to have passed your probation, some are happy with continuous employment in a similar industry.

get a copy of your credit report as what goes on the mortgage app has to match your credit report

savings aim for at least 15% deposit. The difference in rates between 90% LTV and 85% LTV are quite big and probably worth the extra savings bs what you’d end up paying in interest.

Thank you singlebutmarried

Where is the best place to get a copy of your credit report?
What has to match?
