Agent didn't put forward my offer AIBU

Sold our house as no one would let us view unless we were under offer. Completion rapidly approaching so trying to find 6 month rental that will accept 2kg dog. Agreed to completion asap as our buyer expecting first baby and didn't want to hold them up. Found one, perfect position near to where we want to move which is other side of the country. Agent couldn't let us view for 4 days as they were very busy so made appt for when they would fit us in. Desperation made me offer £100 more per month with the 6 months paid up front but nothing could be agreed until we viewed, even though I was willing to take it unseen. I asked that they let the landlord know of my offer. 3 days later, the day before viewing appt, they rang to say a let had been agreed. I asked if they had told the landlord of my offer and they admitted they hadn't as he had agreed to market at that figure and someone came along the following day who passed credit checks etc.
The issue for me is that I would have driven across country there and then but it was the agent who couldn't fit me in. Now I can't find a 6 month let anywhere and the landlord lost out on extra rent (less bothered about this fact!) because the agent chose not to pass my message on. AIBU?

I feel your frustration but we had similar when moving cross country. I think they want to make sure tenants are definitely going to be happy there, must have had situations where people offer unseen then back out. All they care about is getting a good tenant in, not their personal circumstances.

You might try asking on a local Facebook page whether anyone knows of anything coming up for rent in the area. A lot of people seem to do it round here.

Hugely frustrating. I was in your shoes last year. I did offer (and had accepted) on a 6 month tenancy without having seen the property. I was also relocating, and getting desperate! I'm sorry that happened to you, but unfortunately it's a sellers' and letters' market at the moment. It is really unfair for you though.

I'm sorry you are struggling. If the person who has ended up letting the property called the agents before you did which presumably they did in order to have been able to see the house before you then it's just a simple case of they were quicker than you. Unless the landlord is only letting for 6 months and not just a minimum of 6 months then someone looking for a longer term let will be more attractive as will someone without a dog. An extra £600 now is nothing compared to the reletting costs in 6 months when you leave plus any down time between you leaving and a new tenant moving in. Many people in your shoes are moving into Airbnb's where there is a bit more flexibility on timings.

Can I seriously suggest given the state of the market you do not sell your house if you don’t have anything to go into. My hand was forced because my ex basically sold the property from underneath me but the same house would now sell for 60 grand more but more to the point everything that I’m now looking to buy has risen by 60,000 in less than 12 months. So whilst there’s every possibility in six months time normality may have resumed maybe even dropped a little bit you should always buy and sell in the same market.

i’ve been stuck in rented now for nearly 18 months we’ve had to move twice in that time I’ve spent three grand in storage three grand in removal costs and over 15 grand in rent. Don’t do that just to be nice to somebody who’s got a baby on the way it’s not your problem.

This is renting. It’s awful. There are no houses.
also offering so much more rent a month totally sets a tone for families who have no choice but to rent forever having to pay so much so please don’t do that
