Lead pipes in pre 70s home

Have any of you ever discovered your house has lead pipes? I'd recommend checking because we were unaware for a while, lead was banned in pipes in the 1970s, so anything older than that could have them...

We recently had our kitchen done in our pre-war house and the plumber discovered lead piping for the gas.

Was a quick job to replace it though.

@cataline did your water board give you financial grant with the cost of replacing? Was the service line also lead too?

Mine were gas pipes not water.

Sorry - I didn't read your OP properly!

@cataline It's fine, glad you got them replaced

We have lead pipes but only for refuse, not for supply, as far as I understand. But how could I find out?

Ours built in the 30's. I only know about the lead because we can never put drain cleaning chemicals down the pipes as the chemicals can damage lead pipes.
