Professional CCTV
How does it work?
They cable it does this mean it's plugged into a socket inside? Or what?

They usually have a wired ethernet connection that supplies both power and connectivity. The home ones are typically on wifi and need power from the mains.

Ok so if it's a professional CCTV it won't need plugging in or anything?
And would it be 24/7?

Are you asking if it’s monitored or not monitored?

Obviously, if it’s recording, it’s 24/7 but that doesn’t mean someone is literally watching it all day.

MN is getting more and more frustrating to read because so many people seem to be unable to express in words what they actually want and we all have to play guessing games.

A security company can come round and install a cctv camera which they may or may not monitor depending on your subscription. You can also choose to install your own cameras such as Nest etc, but they will obviously not be monitored and the police won’t come out.

Erm I really didn't want to play a game here
Why would I?
I won't bother replying to this post

.The cameras with a wired connection need an ethernet cable that connects them to a network switch, which provides both power and an internet connection. This is what you will see in offices. If you want this type of setup at home the company will have to install the ethernet cabling with the camera. Because this is expensive, most residential cameras are connected by wifi, but you must have a really good wifi signal where the camera is, and it will need electrical power as well. I have two outdoor Ring camera set up this way and they work a treat.

They are "on" all of the time, but typically don't record unless triggered by motion in their field of view. Otherwise, you would have hours and hours of recordings of nothing happening. My Ring cameras and doorbell can even alert me on my phone if they detect motion, and have two-way audio. I've spoken to people at the door through the doorbell while at work.

Perhaps you could describe where and how you want the camera to function. That would help me to give you more specific answers.

Thank you that it's helpful
I know we'd probably have hours and hours of footage that we probably don't need but at this point I'm considering professional CCTV to protect us
Our neighbours are nasty piece of work and are targeting us
If you opt for professional CCTV where is the footage saved?

If you have good wifi or can add it, and electrical power available at the camera location that will be the most cost effective approach. The videos are stored in the cloud/internet. This may be helpful:

If by "professional" you mean managed for you by a security company, I don't think any of them will have someone actually looking at your camera 24 hours a day. If you can be alerted when there is motion you can then use your phone to see what the camera is seeing and what triggered the motion detection alert.

purpleme12 · 18/04/2022 22:49

When I say professional I mean 24/7 rather than motion activated. I don't need anyone watching for me. If I get professional CCTV it will record all the time won't it? So if needed I can look back?

I have become quite worried about what my neighbor will do truth be told. Apart from the things they've done to us and our house they are now trying to say we're doing things to them and we're not

OP posts:
purpleme12 · 18/04/2022 22:51

And I was kind of just thinking it will record our garden when we are out playing in it so I can keep that as evidence of us and what we're doing
Whereas you have to turn a motion activated one off when you're in the garden at it's constantly activated

I don't think it's practical to have it recording all of the time because of the huge amount of storage that would require and because it would be almost impossible to go back and find a specific incident. Surely if your neighbor was to do something to your house there would be motion and the camera would record what was happening. As to the false accusations, I think it's up to them to prove it.

I think you might want to contact a local home security company and have them install an alarm system and camera for you. Having had the Ring system for a year, it will certainly show you what is happening on your own property. I've had insects trigger the cameras, so they are very sensitive.

purpleme12 · 18/04/2022 23:07

Oh right ok perhaps I'd better rethink
I just want to protect my child
Do local security firms install motion cameras for you? Ie as opposed to just the wired in 24/7 ones

Our's records 24/7 and the SD card saves nine days of footage then writes over itself. The next biggest SD card would be the maximum and I think that gives about two weeks footage

It's all very simple. Screw to wall, put SD card in, connect to mains and finally connect to wifi. All monitored on your phone, no subscription fees. For the price it's very good quality footage
