Moving to a relatively bland and boxlike 80s house with the potential to give it a real stamp. Want to do a bit of research of various styles to see what we could do, so would love some help brainstorming styles/themes i could look up to draw inspiration from.
-farmhouse
-Maine coastal
-scandi
-art deco
-french country

If its an 80s home you could take some inspiration and use some fun 80s trends: www.thespruce.com/80s-home-decor-trends-5089027#:~:text=1%20Try%20Lucite%20Everywhere.%20Here%27s%20a%20decor%20trend,vases%20from%20Lyc%20Vintage%20are%20a%20great%20option.

What sort of things do you like? That might be a good starting point :)
Do you like neutral shades? minimalism? modern styles?
Or clutter and maximalism? moody darker shades? antiques?
Favourite colours? favourite time in history? Do you prefer natural woods or brightly coloured furniture? Favourite holiday destinations - beaches, rainforests, country cottage, timber lodge in a forest? The world is your oyster :D

I just want to have some terms to search so I can see what (apologies for wankiness) speaks to me. I just want to make sure I don't get stuck doing what I've always done.

Plus doing a Pinterest board is about the most i can do currently while I wait for legal stuff.

Your best bet might be to read some home decorating magazines, and have a look through the photos, they sometimes cover lots of different styles! Some libraries give you free access to online magazines via Overdrive and other websites too :)

Instagram is good

Sign up for a free trial on Readly and browse the interior design magazines. There are loads of them. If you like something, take a screenshot and pin it to your board. Pinterest will soon start suggesting similar schemes.

Thank you! Good suggestion to use magazine. I am obviously too distanced from my teenage roots of relying on magazines for all info ever!

Have you tried the Houzz app? Free, and easy to create idea books and save reference images of things you like. Even if you think you like lots of things (I do too), you will soon see some themes emerging.

Search terms: also try japandi, cottage core, mid century modern, regency, arts and crafts, transitional. See where they take you!

Take a look at the modern house website and Instagram. A lot of houses there have an almost brutalist vibe, but undeniably stylish and beautiful.

Mid century modern always works.

Terence Conran's book Plain, Simple, Useful is lovely - all airy elegance, but practical and simple too. Fits inside period homes or modern boxes. I have spent way too much time on Pinterest and interiors blogs in recent years, and coming across this book in a charity shop was a real breath of fresh air.

I second the magazine idea. I found it really helpful when trying to narrow down what I wanted for our home.

I have the problem that I swing between maximalist OTT and scandi minimalism (loved KIMYEs all White House).

Looking at magazines helped me merge the two cohesively.
