Can I get away without mist coating?

Plastering was done six months ago in a room that get lots of direct sunlight so fully dried. Does this mean I can just paint or do I still need to mist coat?

Not an expert but I would mist coat. The plaster is very dry and porous and will suck the moisture out the paint and dry out very quickly. The mist coat will sink into the plaster slightly and you'll have more working time. I think you may risk it being patchy and uneven without it.

You still need to mist coat or risk the paint texture going badly wrong.

Cheaper

It takes no time to mist coat a wall and it dries very quickly. Just get it down, then 2 coats of chosen colour and you know its done properly. Cutting corners like this is a receipe for disaster and normally ends up being more hassle and money to put right.

You really need to mist coat. I'm generally a bit cavalier with DIY instructions having done a lot of alongside my dad growing up, but this is one thing I absolutely would not skip.

Thanks - message received! I've done lots of painting over the last year and always mist coated but I was hoping to get away with this one as it's been so long.

No. We waited 6 months (painter availability) and it definitely still needed one.

New plaster will absorb the paint very quickly. The mist coat helps to seal the surface so it is less absorbant so yes you still need to do it otherwise you'll be doing more than 2 colour coats and that will be more costly.
Make sure the mist is done with a matt paint, other paint types tend to skin on the plaster surface rather than penetrate the plaster.

The bare plaster paint from Screwfix is brilliant, I use that rather than mist coat

I just mix PVA with the paint for the first coat, haven't had any problems so far.
