How easy would this be?

Recently bought a renovated but very old house. Most of it is fairly modern with the exception of the kitchen (which is on the list for renovation) and the downstairs loo which has one of those old fashioned, Victorian pull chains with the tank at the top.

I really need a second loo in the house and am wondering how easy/cheap it would be to change this as the current chain is old, unreliable and it sticks so ideally I'd like a new toilet with a regular hand chain or push button chain. Does anyone know how difficult this might be?

The easiest & cheapest option would be to just replace the mechanism in the high tank.

Meh. I thought as much but the toilet itself is quite old, stained and a bit grim so I was hoping I'd be able to buy a cheap but new toilet (they can be picked up for under £100 at b&q) but I don't know how complicated the plumbing side would be.

The expensive bit is soil pipe location etc. So if all is in place - not very is the answer.

Or pour full fat coke down the loo and leave it - or limescale remover from HG. And see if it tidies it up. You can buy a new tank/brackets etc.

They are quite sought after now those old loos.

It really should be very straightforward, might need a bit of new pipework but it’s really not that much more work than swapping any toilet for another one.
No more than a day in labour plus loo costs.
