Hi Everyone
My husband has been given the opportunity to move to the US or UK for a new job. We have been living in Perth Australia for 15 years now and I love it here. I’m a year 4 teacher in a school I love. Sadly we have no choice but leave. He is keen to go to the US but I am keen to go to England. I did my bachelors in Education in the UK many years ago. He would be based in London but I want to live in a more country setting. I have read that you can commute to London easily from close country towns on the outskirts of London. My question is how good are the school in country areas. Are rents affordable? I’m a social person and need people. Is it hard to make friends in the country? Are their a good supply of teaching jobs in country areas? I’m a quilter also so are their quilting groups in the country or quilting is not something the English do? Is there anything you know that I should be aware of in regards to living n the country? Thank you in advance.

Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire into king's cross\st pancras
Liverpool station, services lovely parts of outer ne London\epping forest towards Essex
Then there's the home counties Oxfordshire etc going into central London various routes.
OP the choices are endless. Properties often reflect house prices and some routes into "central" are more expensive than others.
I think teaching jobs are everywhere.
I'm sure others will come along with more specific information and suggestions.
Good luck

If you don't want to leave Oz couldn't he just look for a similar job with another employer if the current boss is refusing to let him stay in situ?

Yes there are plenty of commuter towns just outside the London suburbs but everyone has the same idea so they're very pricy.

You are asking some huge questions here but, as a starting point;
www.zoopla.co.uk/to-rent/details/61197193/ This would be the sort of rent you were looking at in an area with good schools and a decent journey into London.
There are quilting groups around, often linked to local fabric shops.
Most villages, in my experience, are friendly and happy to welcome families.
There will be teaching roles available to you I am sure.
Good luck with your decisions.

See my username.

I have lived on the south coast, just outside Brighton. That might be a good place to start looking. There are trains from Brighton into London. I found it very similar to what you are used to in that the Channel keeps the weather moving through. I would call it like Augusta, just cooler in winter and it can be warm in summer. I liked it there.

If you can give some idea as to where in London your dh would be based, then other posters will be able to talk about which train line would be best for you to start looking along.
