Hiding the washing machine and tumble dryer

Has anyone done something like the attached pic? I have a large downstairs loo next to the kitchen and thinking of creating this sort of set up to house the appliances. What sort of tradesperson would do this?

Carpenter

Mine are hidden in these cupboards. They’re not built in appliances as such, the kitchen fitter made a deeper frame and added doors on. The wall cupboards hide the boiler and the soil pipe from the bathroom above.

Friend has her WM and drier in a cupboard in their large downstairs loo. I was really surprised as it’s a massive executive home and I assumed they had a utility. But they aren’t a muddy family and this seemed like a really good use of spec. There is enough floor space to sort the laundry, the only thing there isn’t is a utility sized sink, just hand washing bowl. You would never know it was there unless you opened the cupboard. Any decent carpenter could do it. You’d just need to choose the style of door which they could either make or buy off shelf.

@elsforemergency, not quite executive home but ridiculously large loo and wasted space. Might you be able to get a pic for me?

Just in terms of fitting the washing machine does it have to go on an outside wall if it’s not in the kitchen please ?

Zooforhouse · 12/04/2022 23:00

Mine are hidden in a downstairs loo. Stacked in a cupboard and the tumble drier is on top and condenser. I recon you want a carpenter?

@Zooforhouse love it! Where is your plumbing? Can it be connected to sink or toilet or is it an outside wall?

Google built in cupboards for this. I’m planning on moving the washer dryer to the bathroom behind cupboards so it looks like part of the room. They aren’t cheap but look good - I’m aiming for tall cupboards so have shelves and hanging rails for clothes

Zooforhouse · 13/04/2022 20:20

Unsure as was like it when I moved in, but the dryer is condenser so no plumbing, the washer is next to a sink and the toilet is an external wall

Sorry to be needy but does anybody know about the plumbing on the washing machine does it have to go on an outside wall or are there ways around this ?

poorbuthappy · 13/04/2022 21:51

Ours are in the corner of the kitchen diner. We had an outside cupboard which we bricked up and turned inwards.

DH is a carpenter joiner so I'm gonna say that is the skill you need 😁

Zooforhouse · 13/04/2022 22:04

Ours is apparently plumbed into the waste. I don’t really know what that means however. It’s not on an external wall

coolpattern · 14/04/2022 11:06

@SpottyStripyDuvet OMG, it has a name! Thank you 🙏

The washing machine needs to go somewhere with access to a drain and water supply. This doesn't have to be on an outside wall.

The pipework needed isn't much different from what's needed for a sink, so adapting pipes to install a machine near an existing sink would normally be a pretty straightforward job for a plumber.

If you wanted to use a vented dryer then the duct for this would be easiest to fit on an outside wall, but condenser dryers are more common and can go anywhere if you use the water tank or can be plumbed in to drain into the same drainage pipe as a washing machine or sink.
