Garden clearance cost

Hi all,

I’m struggling to get quotes to clear some junk out of my garden. I’ve only had one quote and wondered if people think it sounds expensive?

Dismantle and Clear a small shed away.
Take a rotten old wooden 6 person dining table away
Take a pile of garden waste (branches)
They’re quoting £550 for this. I’m in London but still. Grateful to hear of anyone that’s had any similar work done and how much they paid.

Thanks!

Maybe I should have posted in gardening?

Beware beware beware!
Check it is being disposed of correctly as flytipping is rife
Do people who pay £50 to Man In Van really think it is going to a registered site?

Pretty sure it’s a legitimate company - have been sent a copy of a license from the environment agency.

Do you have any opinion about the quote? Not expecting £50 as a quote but this quote is as much to remove the shed as it was to buy one brand new from Tiger Sheds.

Last week I paid £350 to have a large (10’ by 8’) potting shed dismantled and taken away. Plus some garden rubbish. I thought that was quite a good price. Quotes ranged from £300 - £600. Am in Oxfordshire.

Op it sounds like a lot to me. I had a small shed / lawnmower store taken away a couple of weeks ago for £120. And he had a license.

How rotten is the table? Would anyone do it up? I gave away a falling apart table on freecycle once. It wouldn’t hurt to advertise it

DragonMovie · 11/04/2022 13:41

The table looks like it’s had too much to drink 😬 i don’t think anyone would be interested. Thanks for the idea though - always good to remember that people might be interested in all sorts of things!

Also thanks for sharing your quotes. Seems like I’m being overcharged. He’s also suggesting charging £9 per bag of rubbish to take away (there’s probably 15 bags) so for the sake of saving £750 I’m leaning towards doing a diy job. The shed looks like it’d fall down if I just stared at it intensely. The hardest bit would be the many many trips to the tip I reckon.

Hire a van? We're on the outskirts of East London & have hired one (from a company called S&J self drive) a few times.
We last did it about three years ago to clear a 6x8 shed full of junk, plus a load of waste shoved behind it (left by previous owner).
Cost us about £70 to hire for the day (plus £40 for takeaway pizza & beers afterwards to motivate us and thank a friend who helped out 😁).

HidingFromDD · 11/04/2022 14:07

Be careful about hiring a van as many tips don’t allow them unless you’ve got a license.

Maybe hire a skip as it would be cheaper but you’d have to do the work yourself

AwkwardPaws27 · 11/04/2022 14:27

Oh, another option - hippo bag.

We got quoted £350 last year. Company took falling down shed and contents and lots of garden waste away. We are based in South West London.

User843976 · 11/04/2022 14:48

Have you got a frontage or drive for a skip as they are cheaper then as you don't need to pay for the licence thing for on the public highway, that would probably be the easiest.

DragonMovie · 11/04/2022 18:44

No drive unfortunately so a skip is around £650 per week because of the cost of parking bay suspension (£30 a day).

Don’t think vans are allowed in my local tip unfortunately but I’ve managed to rope in 2 friends and their cars so it shouldn’t be too bad between 3 cars.

Thanks for the help everyone!
