Belfast sinks

Hi,

I wasn't sure where to post this but I'm looking for some sink advice please. I'm renovating my first house and have a modern looking kitchen on order. I've always wanted a Belfast/Butler sink but now I'm unsure if it will look out of place with a modern kitchen. All the images I've looked at are in the shaker style kitchens.

I've also been steered away from a Belfast sink by the kitchen salesperson. Apparently I would regret it because it takes up a lot of under sink storage space. Does anyone have any experience of these types of sinks? Are they worth it?

Any opinions or advice welcome! :)

Thank you

Mine isn’t a modern kitchen so whether it works style-wise or not, I couldn’t say BUT the flip side of losing under sink storage is that you have a really deep sink which is great IMO, I can fit my whole grill pan, wok, oven shelves for example in my butler sink. There’s still room below for the height of a regular spray bottle so I think the salesperson is talking twaddle on that aspect.

I have a double Belfast sink which I wanted as I love the look.

Now I have it, it's a bit annoying as a sink. There is enough storage underneath - you can get a large box of Washing powder in height wise. It's nice getting large pans in it.

However they don't drain properly so always need cleaning and it constantly looks a bit mucky unless you obsess over it.

On the other hand I have a cottage style kitchen so given the chance, I'd probably buy one again style over substance

I have one and I love it. I love the depth. That said I have a shaker style kitchen Grin.

Thanks everyone! We have a dishwasher so I don't even know how much use this sink will get! The drainage comment puts me off slightly as I would be obsessing over it but I don't know if it puts me off enough to not want one Grin I'm so undecided, arghhh.

Cleaning my Belfast sinks is so annoying! As a PPs aid they don’t drain properly

Chewbecca · 09/04/2022 11:45

Not sure what the drainage thing is about, mine drains just the same as any other sink I ever had!

Ooh I'm so conflicted. I might just have to toss a coin at this rate.

I'm definitely over thinking this decision. And every other decision I have to make about this renovation!

I have a stainless steel sink that doesn’t drain completely and needs to be swished around/cleaned after use but am getting a Belfast sink soon. I am expecting to have to clean the new one lots too but I will feel happier after cleaning it as it will look so much prettier than the old one!
