Recessed bathroom cabinet

Hello,

We are doing up a very small cloakroom and were thinking that having a recessed bathroom cabinet on the wall might make the space feel a bit more open. The few that we've managed to find seem really expensive - do they need to specifically mention that they can be recessed or could you do it with any cabinet?

Has anyone put one in that they'd recommend or have one and think it's not worth the hassle to save a few centimetres!?

I'd be grateful for any experiences.

If you're having work done your best bet is to get your builder to build one.

If you bought one how would it be recessed? Will the wall be built from scratch or would you take wall away to fit it in?

We had a new bathroom built, complete with walls, and cupboards were built into the new walls so that they are completely recessed, with doors flush with the wall. Our builder just did it with MDF.

Thanks so much for your reply.

The space is a shell at the moment, just breeze blocks, no plasterboard or anything so a totally blank canvas. The plan is to go for a wall-hung vanity and chase the pipes into the wall so I suppose I was thinking they could kind of do the same with the cabinet?

It's a really good idea to chat it through with the builder though, I hadn't really thought of just getting some mdf shelves built in.

This is probably a stupid question but would it be possible to have something with power built in like that? I like the look of the mirrors that have additional lighting, or the cabinets that have shaver sockets. Could you then just buy a separate mirror and have it installed over the top on a hinge??

Thank you

We had ours built from scratch with stud walls inside a larger room, so power was put into the cupboards that were built in. We have shaver sockets inside the cupboard and also recessed led lighting strips low down at skirting board height that are motion activated at night. Perfect for kids going to the loo at night.

You need to talk to your builder. It might be easier for them to take the breeze blocks down and start again with stud walls. Then you can build in anything you want. It build a fake wall in front of the breeze blocks with the cupboard and electrics.
