Hello, just wondering what hourly rates do architects in London charge? For fairly nice residential SW or NW residential projects? Architects, associate architects and Directors

Trying to get my ducks in a line

thx

I wouldn’t expect them to charge hourly for most residential projects unless it’s a really small job.

If they give hourly rates I’d expect to see something between £80 - £150 an hour, assuming you’re going with a chartered practice and not a one man band.

Definitely a chartered practice.

Hourly rates is for the initial stages when I am not sure what the full scope would be so they can't actually produce a fixed fee. Whatever they provide for a fixed will be based on their hourly rates too I expect.

It'd be great is anyone has experience with a reputable (though not huge) London firm.

thx

@hashbrownsandwich I see on another chat that your husband is an architect.... Maybe you can help with this question?

I’m an architect 😂

Have a chat with some firms and see what they put to you as a fee proposal.

A good one that is experienced with working with domestic clients will be able to discuss the brief and put a fee proposal to you that includes very early design stages even if you don’t know exactly what you want yet.

thanks @PinkPlantCase I just want to get an idea before I waste anyone's time thinking I can afford something I can't

Do you mean having a brief chat about your project/budget or a feasibility study? (which might be sketches/ideas/suggestions for materials etc)

SoTiredNeedHoliday · 06/04/2022 11:49

Yes anything that is not on a fixed fee

Well a brief chat might be free, but a feasibility study would be several hours of work.
I agree with pp about hourly rates
