Has anybody had a quote for Solar Panels in the last three months ?

Would you mind sharing please ? I’m hoping when I get some work done on my roof I’ll be able to put these in at the same time that maybe optimistic though given how busy they are.

We had 10 panels installed, end of March, with battery back up, all app driven, really working well for us, the battery tops up during the day to use in the evening, cost just over £10k.

Bear in mind the government announced only last week that it was removing VAT from solar panels so anyone who bought them before then will have paid 20pc VAT.

I've been quoted 2.3k for six 335kw panels plus an inverter and fixtures/fittings but not including labour. A small battery is around £900 quid.

This is for a compact two bed cottage.

Labour looks to be about the same cost as the panels.

If you are having work done anyway then it looks like a good time - a big cost is labour and scaffolding as you can see

NiceTwin · 05/04/2022 17:56

£13k for the maximum kW output you can have with the largest battery. Would be £10.6k if we'd waited and not paid VAT.

Really pleased with them though. We have had a fair number of days where we haven't used any electricity and we have sold some back to the gird too.

Very strange question but do you reckon you could fit them yourself ? Or that a builder or a roofer could put them on ? Labour is the biggest hold up to be really honest with you I just need a few tiles replacing on one side of the roof so I’m getting somebody up there to do that and the thought process was I wonder if they could fit them while they were up there

Very high demand means it's a bad time to buy into solar. All quotes will be inflated

I’m actually looking to see whether I can like get into it and learn to do it at weekends right now 🤣

It took, two electricians and 3 installers for the panels, to do our install, that are installing day in day out, from 8am until 2pm. Seeing the work involved, no way would we have considered it, but we are not DIYers at all.

strawberriesarenot · 05/04/2022 18:49

Family member: 12 panels + battery, 4 bedroom house between 12 & 13k.

MojoMoon · 06/04/2022 12:44

You'd definitely need an properly qualified electrician to hook them up.

Your regular roofer/builder should be able to fit them though assuming you have had a proper survey and plan done by the solar company and they follow the plan- eg that they are fitted correctly and in the right place.....

That’s really interesting that’s exactly what I was thinking because if I’m gonna get somebody in to put in the dorma thing on the side of the roof and I’m gonna get them to obviously just repair any tiles that need doing I couldn’t see any reason why they couldn’t install the solar panels at the same time and then get an electrician in to hook them up. The specialist companies are literally booked up until next summer I’m not even joking

Do you still pay a daily charge to the electricity supplier?

There's only very limited electric suppliers who offer a no standing charge tarriff. It's a minority of your overall energy costs tho.

OP, you need to get some specific and detailed comparisons for them to rrally mean anything. Case on point, the ones above with the battery costs wrapped in - they are pretty meaningless without more detail (what size battery??)

Currently waiting for the attached, via a council rum group buying scheme.
