Considering no door on our kitchen. Thoughts on this or a pocket door?

To save space really.

We would open it up to be wider/higher so it doesn’t look like we’ve just removed the door.

@PruGnu

We've had our doors change to open outward into the hall and on a French door hinge so they open right out flat to the wall. Made such a difference to space available.
This is also something I’ve considered. Thanks. We have a large wall for it to open against in the hallway.

Out stairs go into our kitchen so we have no door, I don't think it would actually be possible to put one in. It doesn't cause any problem and we don't get any smells or noise.

We’ve got glazed double pocket doors into kitchen. It’s quite a big space and having them closed makes a big difference to how warm the room is.

We have a hallway with living room off that (with door) and kitchen at the end (no door). We usually have the extractor fan on so no issues with smells (except roast chicken 🤢). It was like this when we moved in and there were no issues raised n the survey so I assume it meets fire regs.

We just had an extension built and the inspector said it was OK not to have a door between the kitchen and hall so long as heat detectors were installed in the kitchen and fire alarms in the hall.

The person we bought our house from had done this, good idea for space saving but it can be a nightmare. I can't shut small kids out of the kitchen if I'm cooking/carrying hot stuff, I can't shut lets out of the kitchen if I've left food out etc, it can be annoying tbh. And yes I doubt it would meet regulations for fire x oh and I can't shut the door on the washing machine when it's being loud 😂 x

We don't have a door on our kitchen and it causes no issues, like you it just leads into the hallway, we also didn't in our old house. We recently had a large extension including the kitchen and we didn't have to put a door on

I think the only thing that would stop me from having an open plan space or a kitchen with no door would be the travelling of the cooking smells. Otherwise, I don't know what would be wrong with having no door really?
