Has anyone used microcement?

Just found this stuff after watching a program on TV. Looking into it further for my bathroom walls including shower walls (studding in a 4m x 4m bathroom). I have very natural stone tiles arriving for the floor (tumbled edges) and I've been trying to match these up with wall tiles for the shower area. I want my bathroom to be minimalist and calm looking (freestanding bath, reclaimed wood sink unit), and this microcement seems a good idea.

Has anyone else gone for this?

I have it in both my bathrooms - floors and walls in my shower/wet areas. I recommend it - no grout to discolour and it looks as good as new with very little maintenance. You just can’t use regular cleaners on it, needs to be plant-based which most companies that do the work can provide 👍🏼

Thank you @Lastoftheenglishroses.

What colour did you get? Who applied it? So is it a shower tray as well?

@BastardtheCat - I had Feather in my bathrooms and a custom blend in my extension on the floor. I had a local company do it (Norfolk) but I know loads do it now! You can have it covering your shower tray but I have a low profile black ones that I wanted to keep a different colour. Have attached photo of my en-suite 👍🏼

We have it on our kitchen island, which I appreciate isn't the same as walls/floor. It's asphalt colour and came from KC Berry. DH applied it himself, but he's good at stuff like plastering 😉

Thanks everyone and thanks for the pic - what a stunning ensuite!

What does it feel like to the touch?

Really tempted!

I'd love this in our downstairs shower room. What are the costs like?

givememarmite · 05/04/2022 19:48

If you are on instagram look up oakappledecor they have done their bathrooms in microcement and have lots of stories saved in their highlights showing how they did it all with lots of tips and info. Might be helpful and give you some ideas.

Thank you @givememarmite

@tentative3 My builder said it was roughly £100-£150 per square metre. Definitely cheaper to tile but I much prefer that calm, continuous non-fussy look.

Just came here to ask the same thing after watching Dream Kitchens and Bathrooms Grin.
Reminds me of the lime washed walls I’ve also been covering.

Stupid question - would it be a builder who would do it or a bathroom tiler? I have no idea who I would approach.

That ensuite is gorgeous!

@Lastoftheenglishroses would you mind sharing the company you used? Im in Suffolk and trying to find a decent local company X

DarkDarkNight · 12/04/2022 18:06

hannahcolobus thank you, having some quotes for plastering at the minute so will check if any of them do this as well.

@hannahcolobus
I dont think floor screed will last very long If it isn't covered! Might look the same for a few months though

@hannahcolobus can we see a photo of the kitchen floor? I'm thinking about something like that for our kitchen..

Alexalee · 14/04/2022 06:03

@hannahcolobus
Did you seal the top like you have to with microcement?
If its lasted 18 months then that is a great hack!! Do you know what floor screed you used?

That looks lovely! @Lastoftheenglishroses I would like to know what kind of product was used as the sealant.
Is it transparent or somewhat milky looking when applying? ( acrylic based) How often does it need resealing? Do you have a product name for the microcement and its sealer?
Thanks so much.
