Is it possible to change my kitchen floor?

I have thick engineered oak down (thick enough to take 1 or 2 sandings). I don't like the look of it & would love to change it but I'm not sure this is even possible? All our kitchen cupboards are built on top of it & they have heavy granite worktops. Is there a way around this? This floor runs all the way through to the hall too without a join in the doorway. If I lay anything new on top the underside of the door will have to be shaved. And there is already a step down into the lounge (which doesn't have oak). Has anyone got any ideas?

Sand it quite a lot and add a layer of Amtico tiles? They are only a very few mm thick. They need sticking down. Ask in a flooring shop if this is possible.

I'm no expert in engineered wood but you should be able to sand it.

What about a limewash finish? Sand it then bleach it, then limewash it. But get a professional advice.

Have a look at this: www.sourcewoodfloors.co.uk/limed-oak-flooring

We're in the opposite position - we have LVT that we hate (not a bad product, just not at all suitable for the room - we were badly advised) and want to replace with engineered wood. Our cupboards also run on top of the the flooring.

We will be having the existing flooring cut off just behind the unit kickboards, and then the new flooring will go down. The join will then be hidden behind the kickboards. The main thing to consider is differing heights. In our case, it will mean the kickboards need to be sanded/cut down, as the new floor will be higher than the old one, plus we have carpet in the neighbouring room, so will need a new threshold strip.
