Have you ever had a couple of weeks between buying and moving in ?

The place I’ve bought needs absolutely everything doing to it so it’s almost impossible to prioritise I’m just gonna have to get in and then work my way around the house.

Ideally I’m thinking paint every ceiling in the house (one needs replastering) before we get in potentially I’m thinking change all the electrical light fittings that kind of thing. And then once that’s done get somebody into deep clean air before all the furniture comes in. I would like to change the carpets but I’m thinking if I still need the walls painting is that gonna be a disaster ?

I also don’t love the idea of the removal man or women walking all over my brand-new bedroom carpets so I figured the only way to do it is get the furniture in and then change the carpets but does that work ? I’ve only ever done this once before with a bungalow and all my furniture was out in the street while the bedroom carpet was changed and now I think back it was a bit icky that it then went back in the house, I couldn’t wipe it down.

Carpet fitters usually love the furniture to one side of the room and out the carpet down and then swop

Move not love

So not impossible then I wonder why my last lot insisted it was all empty 🙄

Just get a responsible removal company who uses thick dustsheets over all the carpets.

Re-carpeting once you're in will be a massive faff.

So they would do was laydown the sheets in the bedroom and walk over those to put the beds in the wardrobes in ? Then pull the sheets out magician Stylee ? I know I sound a bit OCD but it just properly turned my stomach last time thinking that the stuff it literally been out on the driveway and I didn’t think to wipe down the underneath of the bed and the drawers legs.
I want everything to be absolutely perfect in this new house

Ok recarpet once you've moved in then.

You can ask them to wear covers on their shoes, but most just put down rugs to protect the carpet. We’ve done this twice - moved, redecorated and had new carpet and flooring before moving in. It’s so much quicker for all concerned.

That’s a really good idea yeah I don’t want to be so paranoid that I make my life difficult. Well no more so than usual anyway.

We had one month and used the time to fully rewire, strip walls, pull up carpets and plaster 2 rooms. Painted the living room and moved all furniture in there.

Now we are sleeping in a spare bedroom with all our old house items piled high whilst we decorate two bedrooms and carpet, then we'll move into those and unpack properly. It's hectic but fine.

If you're having any building work, electrical chasing or plastering done then get used to dust and dirt very quickly or you won't cope. Seriously.
