Yes and noticed there had been many posts that had people put offers on homes so didn’t think adding my story would be any different - also I did mention that there was nothing out there initially then some came out.
don’t understand what your point is

It's clear from what you've written that you haven't had the same experience as everyone else posting here.

The thread title is "anyone not being picky and still can't find anything?" You've dropped in to tell us how easy you've found it all. Read the room.

WoWsers16 · 07/05/2022 18:48

Everyone has different experiences - Don’t be so tetchy - things could fall through yet as many people know and then there may not be anything.
would say good luck finding a property but honestly can’t be bothered

I agree everyone has different experiences and this thread is about people struggling to find a home, as per the thread title.

CamoTeaLaLa · 07/05/2022 18:52

I’m happy to get a broad view of the ins/outs, buy/sell, happy/sad, ups/downs of the whole process tbh.

RidingMyBike · 07/05/2022 20:01

Yep, I mean I still follow this thread and join in when I can. We're hopefully (aarrgghh) completing purchase this month but we're in the not being able to find anything at all category for several months before that.

I found the earlier threads like this really encouraging that we'd hopefully find something in the end.

Question... why did you view if you'd seen the other side of the same semi, and knew you wouldn't like it?

It’s a reasonable question! This side has a decent conservatory, plus the kitchen has been done differently and has room for a small dining table - in the other one they’d shoved it into a corner of the not-massive lounge.

There is a beautiful large tree close behind the house which wasn’t in leaf when I viewed the other side, but together with the conservatory, it makes it the lounge very dark.

WonkyWheelbarrow · 07/05/2022 20:46

Oh that makes more sense! I assumed it'd be a mirrored layout 😂

dubyalass · 07/05/2022 21:33

It is, pretty much! I did wonder why I was bothering this morning, but it’s a town centre location with parking so I wanted to rule it out as much as anything.

I’m having an enforced break from viewings because I’m away for work for the next fortnight. Quite looking forward to it, although Sod’s law says my perfect house comes on while I’m away 🙄

I just spotted this article. It's worth a read. Prices have dropped about 10% in NZ. They are having the same economic pressures as us.

Had a call from an agent. Would we like to book a viewing for a property that’s not on rightmove yet. Top of our budget but in our preferred postcode area and has 3 bedrooms plus off road parking. Apparently doesn’t need loads of work. I’ve booked in for next week but no idea what it looks like Confused. No doubt it will sell over asking. They said they expect to have a lot of interest in it. I am sure they will. But slightly interesting that they are calling people already registered with them before putting it straight on the open market on rightmove. Haven’t seen any agent do this in the last year we’ve been looking. I wonder if the tide is starting to turn.

We've viewed 3 properties like this and have also registered with 5 agents. All of whom are emailing me details daily of prospective houses. This is standard practice in the London/home counties area. However, this has also created a shortage of properties because houses are selling before they are publicly advertised. Plus, the EA's are inadvertently (or not) creating a bidding war with houses selling well above asking price.

dubyalass · 08/05/2022 16:38

I think in all the time I've been searching (over a year now) only one agent has rung to ask for feedback. It had multiple offers already so I don't know why they bothered. This is so different to the last time I bought, when every agent phoned for feedback after every viewing. Still nobody emailing me about new houses though, with all the buyers down here they probably don't need to.

Overdon · 08/05/2022 17:01

I'm struggling to even get a viewing recently, it's worse then ever. I was outbid in March, but consoled myself with the thought that there would be a flurry of houses coming up for sale after easter, well that clearly hasn't happened.

I have registered my interest in a new build development, but they haven't even started building yet.

I wish I could hold off from buying tbh, with the economic forecast being so worrying, but I cant bear to rent for much longer owing to my deteriorating relationship with the landlord, but that's a whole other thread!

ByeByeMissAmericanPie · 09/05/2022 07:59

@EmmaH2022 - oh gosh… you have a lot on your plate atm. I hadn’t realised what else had been going on with your DM. 💐

Im sitting tight and hoping my vendors have found somewhere. Meanwhile, I’m still actively looking.

TwinklingFairyLights · 09/05/2022 09:29

Is there a 2 speed market? Anecdotally and from reading this thread it seems that hot suburbs of major cities have an under supply of properties for sale, whereas towns / rural areas have levelled off on the supply / demand.

What kind of area are you in?

areyouhavingagiraffe · 09/05/2022 12:25

My vendors still not found onward purchase. I honestly don't know what to do....I am happy to wait around but don't want them to just pull out.

dubyalass · 09/05/2022 13:57

Remaining house went to a higher offer than mine. Oh well. It had a number of compromises but I think I would have liked living there. I'm now away for a fortnight so got to hope that anything I like that comes on while I'm away is still taking viewings when I get back.

EmmaH2022 · 09/05/2022 14:59

Hi all
Wasn't sure whether or not to update as I know tensions are high on this thread
But the purchase has fallen through. I don't think I am going to look again, at least not in summer. I spend enough time on a boiling hot Tube already!

I wish you all the best of luck in finding lovely new homes.

Overdon · 09/05/2022 15:28

@TwinklingFairyLights I'm in a Yorkshire city. Your thoughts on a two speed market are interesting.

TwinklingFairyLights · 09/05/2022 17:11

@Overdon

I don't know for definite but it seems to be a trend from talking to various friends. People buying in London and the big northern cities are struggling to get viewings, whereas people in large towns / rural areas are able to view and purchase as per normal.

@RidingMyBike comments are interesting too about properties previously SSTC coming back on. I wonder if some of this is due to banks tightening how much they will lend due to interest rates edging up.

TwinklingFairyLights · 09/05/2022 18:06

@Overdon

I was in the first of these threads before Christmas. I sold a flat and moved into parents temporarily (but still here 😬). My forward purchase fell through - vendors were relocating then changed their minds. Never trust a vendor 😂.

I took a bit of time off and started looking again in Feb. Also buying in a suburb of a major city and I'm not seeing much I like coming up. I've deliberately built relationships with agents and hope I'm in their good books. They know im a serious (desperate) buyer at least.

RidingMyBike · 09/05/2022 18:13

Yep we're buying in a northern city and it's been not much coming on the market even during the supposed rush. Or rather, a lot of a certain type of house coming on (3 bed semi a looonnnggg way from centre) but not much else. Don't know how viewings are going as we haven't done any for 2 months.

The ones coming back on the market need work doing - they're all either probate or elderly person moving into care home - so it's not just tired decor, it's repairing roofs, replacing boilers, rewiring, kitchens, bathrooms and windows type stuff at a minimum. I did wonder if the mortgage down valuations meant less money to spend on the house. Or that surveys are coming back indicating much more expensive problems.

Ah bugger, I’m sorry. After all this time too. Did you pull out or did they?

I think it’s a good idea to hold off for a while if you can tolerate it. I’m so pissed off with the whole sorry business.

I'm so sorry to read this @EmmaH2022, I've been rooting for you since the early threads, it's sad to see your purchase has fallen through.

I can see why you would put buying on hold for a little while; if I was on my own I think I would too, but 2DC and living on top of other family means I am clinging on to this second property after my first fell through. Not holding out much hope for this one as have already had a not insignificant down valuation, and commissioned another to be sure. I'll have to walk away if vendors refuse to budge as I have no more money!

All the best to you Flowers
