Of course I loved the house I saw this afternoon. It's offers over and so I've offered 5% over the base price. Room for manoeuvre but I wouldn't want to pay much more. I'm the only one who's offered so far but I'm sure there will be others before the week is out. We shall see.

Paddingtonthebear · 08/06/2022 20:49

Best of luck!

Apparently we find out tomorrow if our mortgage has been agreed.

Apparently..

RidingMyBike · 08/06/2022 20:51

We finally exchanged today! On the fifth attempt.

I'm so knackered from all the uncertainty I don't even feel excited about it!

Congratulations! Our survey & valuationa are booked for next week & then we'll find out from the bank if our mortgage has been approved.
Our vendors haven't found a house yet so it's a waiting game now.

Starseeking · 08/06/2022 21:28

Congratulations @RidingMyBike, it's probably due to all the false starts, the joy of finally having some certainty will no doubt kick in in a couple of days time, when things have settled.

Starseeking · 08/06/2022 21:34

I'm so bored of house buying now, I just really want to move. At the end of this month, me and my 2 DC will have been living with my parents for a year. A WHOLE YEAR! I can't quite believe it.

My offer on the house I am currently buying was accepted just shy of 12 weeks ago. Valuations and survey done, my mortgage offer is in, just waiting for my solicitor to provide me with the conveyancing pack to review. She in turn is waiting for the vendors solicitor to respond to her queries, and they are waiting for my vendor to provide them with some certificates, it's like some sort of nightmare merry-go-round!

dubyalass · 08/06/2022 21:40

The agent today said most sales were taking around four months to go through. My last sale took six weeks (no chain) so four months is a bit of a daunting prospect but I suppose it could be worse.

Paddingtonthebear · 09/06/2022 15:23

Lots of people here also fed up with nationwide processing times …

Completing tomorrow. It’s amazing how stressful something nice can be. I spent two years running around trying to look after my dying mother, over 100’s miles during a pandemic while dealing with perimenopause, and I was only 12% more stressed than this. I’ve cried at work today 😇

dubyalass · 09/06/2022 19:59

Congratulations @CamoTeaLaLa ! I went through similar with my mum a few years ago so I totally understand.

No news on my offer yet, am guessing they have more viewings booked and will wait to see what else comes in. It would be so nice to not be checking RM every few hours...

Hi all, I nearly joined this thread earlier in the year after going to best and final on three houses and missing out on them all. Then in May the sale of one of those fell through (my favourite of the lot!). However the survey has come back and it's not good! Subsidence and rising damp amongst a lot of other issues which I expected as it's in need of a renovation. I'm going to have to pull out because of the subsidence and I'm gutted. So I'll join you all in the hunt again! There do seem to be more houses coming on the market recently here (Cheshire) but still most go to SSTC on Rightmove within a week or so.

Hello I'm hoping to join in the house search. We're ftb - mid 30s - 3 dc under 5 (twins & reception), have a good deposit (finally!) but as I work p/t the amount we can borrow is quite low however we live in the NE so have a bit more scope. We've been looking since January and becoming quite disheartened. Is anyone else feeling the same way? How long has it taken everyone else to find a house? How did you compromise on location or house?

We're currently paying £650 a month in rent and the rentals on my street have jumped the past few months so we're getting quite nervous that we need to move into our own owned home soon.

We're 15k shy of a move in able house in a good area. So we have the compromise of a big project in a good area or a okay house in a bad or OK area. It's really hard choice as we don't have anything left in the bank to do up the do-uppers (will take another ten years+ of saving to get a sizeable chunk of money)

Went to see two today - one had no completion cert for the loft conversion, needed new boiler, rewiring, kitchen was...well in bits, single pane windows, garden was knee high . The bones of the house is perfect and in a lovely location, the school was at the end of the cul de sac.It was sold three years ago for 40k under what they're asking for now.

Second house we viewed was small, but in good condition - kitchen/living room/diner all in one room, 3 beds upstairs and a redecorated full electric brick outbuilding in the garden. New carpets, kitchen looked lovely we could picture ourselves living in the house but the street had six (!) houses with boarded up windows, graffiti on the fence of the path, few young 'uns on mopeds driving the street. Felt really unsafe stepping out.

We have a wide-ish search but everything seems to be snapping up in days or staying put for months (the ones that are not habititable.) We would love to move into a home that "just" needed new carpets, decorating and some maintenance on the garden or yard- they seem very few and far between.

Iveonlygoneanddoneit · 09/06/2022 22:31

I’ll join this thread. I feel like I’ve been looking forever for a place. In south London and can’t find a decent 2 bed for £600k close enough to my sons school.

Saw 2 today. One close by but the rooms were tiny and the flat itself was quite small. Another one further away and 3 bed but the property needs work and the communal spaces were poorly kept which put me off!

I keep looking at the same searches thinking maybe I should view it or enquire about it but then find something that doesn’t work!

There is nowhere to rent either unless I want to pay £2k a month for one double and a box room!

dubyalass · 09/06/2022 22:49

Join us! I've been looking since January last year. Probably could have bought several of the houses I've seen but here we are. Yes 100% disheartened! It's dire out there.

Wheati · 10/06/2022 07:59

Morning
Iveonlygoneanddoneit I'm sorry you're having a nighare time too. I hope you find somewhere suitable very soon- it's very disheartening. I sometimes wish we had the money and bought prekids when schools weren't so much of a big issue.

dubyalass - gosh January!! We were hoping to be in our first home by Christmas this year (our rental argreement finishes in January) but its looking less and less likely. There's nothing out there. I hope you find somewhere what are you looking for?

Paddingtonthebear · 10/06/2022 14:28

Omg we had the mortgage offer through today, finally!

Woo hoo! Congratulations! Things can finally come together for you now.

dubyalass · 10/06/2022 17:13

Offer accepted! Only took me 17 months to find somewhere. I suppose I graduate to the buyers thread now...

Congrats! Is there a buyers thread?

dubyalass · 10/06/2022 18:03

Thanks!

There was, although I haven't looked at it for ages. I'll see if I can find a link.

RidingMyBike · 10/06/2022 18:20

Oooh congrats @dubyalass

Hi all
How is everyone?

I'm still finding my current area painfully grim so it might be time to pick up the flat hunting.

I seem to recall a few posters were looking in SE London which is new territory for me, but wonder if I should consider it. I was thinking in particular of all the flats there seem to be around Woolwich.

What's it like, does anyone know? Also, I know that gang problems are everywhere but they are so...prominent...in my area, is it the same round there? Thanks for any thoughts.

Paddingtonthebear · 22/06/2022 13:16

We had an offer accepted, started the process, got the valuation agreed and then a perfect house arrived in my inbox to throw a big spanner in the works. Offered on the perfect house but got outbid considerably. Have decided to stick with original purchase and remove myself from all mailing lists!

Paddingtonthebear · 22/06/2022 13:17

Prob need to remove myself from this thread too!
