Fixing to a brick wall - help please!

I need to secure a standing tall bookcase to a wall and I'm struggling to work out how to do it. I have a drill available. When I google how to fix to a brick wall the advice is usually for bare brick walls. This is just a normal bedroom wall - it's an outer wall so it it's brick/breezeblock with plaster and paint over. Do I just need to follow the online instructions for fixing to a masonry wall?

Total newbie to this stuff, never actually used a drill so any advice would be greatly welcomed.

Yes - masonry drill bit and rawl plug. Make sure you aren’t drilling above a socket.

Use a wall plug to screw into to give more support.

The blue tipped drill bits are strongest, I believe. Start with a smaller drill bit than you might need, and work up to a larger size. Brick is tricky, you can't tell if you'll hit brick or mortar, which is much softer. Yes to plugs, they are a must! If you end up with a whole too big for what you need, use polyfilla in the hole and insert the wall plug as well. Let it dry, and then carry on screwing in - it'll hold just fine.
