Why are all the sellers nutty (for properties I want to buy!!)

BookwormButNoTime · 01/04/2022 19:25

I posted recently about a property we have offered on but the seller refuses to consider any offers until viewings have “dried up”. At the last count there had been 74 viewings and only one offer (from us).

We have kept this offer on the table but carried on looking as a result. Another house has come on the market we are interested in. Seller is refusing to take it off the market unless the price is binding and won’t be open to negotiation following any searches or surveys. So literally, they expect you to incur legal fees and pay for surveys to ensure there’s no major issues before they will commit to selling it to you and take it off the market. In the meantime, whilst you are spending money, they still want viewings to take place.

I mean, I know some vendors have daft ideas but isn’t it down to the agent to tell them that this just isn’t the way you do things?????

To clarify, I am a full cash buyer, want it done quickly and easily, not looking to price chip, just doing what normal people do and get a survey done to ensure no hidden major issues.

Am I being realistic and come across two nutty sellers (and one dodgy agent) or am I out of touch with it being “a sellers market” and they can literally just do what they want?

I am absolutely disgusted with your disablism and for MN for agreeing to delete a post defending for a disabled person.

MN - is your position that disabled people should not buy secondary properties to create an income? I'd like to know.

As for you @Sapphirehane - I again suggest that you come up with an alternative source of income for someone who is currently confined to a wheelchair. And I suggest you get a more sophisticated grasp of economics than the idea that disabled people buying properties to let for income are responsible for property price increases.

TatianaBis · 04/04/2022 14:03

@rugbunch

The OP already has a 2nd home & is now doing renovations & looking for a 3rd home to live in whilst renovating &/or for family & paying cash. There are other things you can do with cash rather if you need income.
Such as what?
Sapphirejane · 04/04/2022 14:13

Oh sorry @TatianaBis I didn’t realise that economic forces recognised the physical health of the people creating the supply and demand.

I can see this is a sensitive subject for you but the OP’s disability does not make them immune from criticism for their actions. I am well aware of the difficulties of people with disabilities to maintain steady employment but someone with the ability to own three homes, at least one of these outright probably has more options for income opportunities than a lot of others.

MN didn’t delete your post for your point of view, they deleted it because you resorted to personal attacks. The OP appears more than capable of defending herself if she wants to she doesn’t need you to tell people to “STFU” on her behalf because she is disabled.

TatianaBis · 04/04/2022 14:34

What is haranguing a disabled person for their their choices if not a personal attack?

It's not a sensitive subject for me because I'm not disabled, but unlike you I'm well aware of the difficulties disabled people face.

I have reported your posts attacking the OP asked MN to have a look at all the similar posts on the whole thread because I think the ignorance and disablism on this thread is a disgrace.

TatianaBis · 04/04/2022 14:44

And by the way the increase in property prices is as much to do with low interest rates, the ease of obtaining mortgages in the UK, small island with a large and growing population, low levels of new housing built annually so that we don't have an excess supply, social housing being sold off in the 80s etc. The % of BTL LLs who are disabled and doing so because they have super limited work options will be small.

Sapphirejane · 04/04/2022 14:51

Are you completely missing the point the OP owns 1 house she lives in, one that is a second home and empty when not in use, and now wants to buy a third in the same area that is for her extended family to holiday in and to let out for holiday lets. As you say, we are a small island with a large and growing population so one person doesn’t need three houses, two of which will be empty half the time!! If OP really needed the income do you not think she’d look to buy a house to long term let and even let out the empty second home as well.

passport123 · 04/04/2022 14:53

@BookwormButNoTime

I also can’t afford to be dropping a grand here and there on surveys where the seller isn’t prepared to take the property off the market and commit to the sale.
Property coming off the market gives you no protection - it could go back on. If you don't want to invest in surveys without guarantees then don't buy property in the UK!
Dindundundundeeer · 04/04/2022 15:19

@TatianaBis have you heard of pensions? Pensions are investments that pay out an income. You can structure other investment is ISA’s and GIA’s to do the same. Over time property and investments have returned about the same. Buying property is NOT the only way to generate an income and in fact is trapping capital.

rugbunch · 04/04/2022 15:52

Is this a serious question?

One of my parents is disabled. Stop othering them & treating them as if they are a separate species without any agency. It's incredibly patronising! ok

Sapphirejane · 04/04/2022 16:00

@rugbunch - the irony of their comments being I am in my bed today with a chronic health condition which I have, and still maintain a career (not in property investment Grin). I agree Tatiana is being incredibly patronising and her shouting disablism is laughable.

rugbunch · 04/04/2022 16:10

"Won't someone think of the poor disabled people"! 🙄

rugbunch · 04/04/2022 16:11

@Sapphirejane sorry to hear that.

Sapphirejane · 04/04/2022 16:15

@rugbunch thank you, it is what it is unfortunately

No I’ve never heard of pensions and I haven’t got my own.

Property is better than an investment portfolio if you need a stable and regular income, indeed property investment in general is less volatile.

I did not say property was the only way.

No, it was rhetorical - attacks on the OP without any positive contribution cannot be taken seriously.

Well I hope you have more respect for and understanding of your parent than you have managed to extend to the OP.

I have never done any such thing, that is simply a lie to try and grasp at some form of moral high ground.

What I have said is that OP and many other disabled people have difficulties maintaining an income.

rugbunch · 04/04/2022 16:38

who has said otherwise?

attacks? 😆

Presumably you’re aware that some people are actually not well enough or too severely disabled to maintain careers? That OP is not currently able to work and is in a wheelchair? Or is this just all about you?

Sapphirejane · 04/04/2022 16:42

@TatianaBis - Whilst you probably had the best of intentions, I think it might be best to realise that you have overstepped the mark on this one.

TatianaBis · 04/04/2022 16:49

You’re missing the point, intentionally or not, that the property is only temporarily a second home while it is being renovated. Once finished it will become their forever home and the other let for income and used for family to visit them.
rugbunch · 04/04/2022 16:50

Presumably you’re aware that some people are actually not well enough or too severely disabled to maintain careers?

defo not aware of that but thanks for the enlightenment. Any other pearls of wisdom?

Or is this just all about you?

It appears to be about you...
