Need to get rid of cork tiles

Hello,

Moved recently into a house which we are currently gutting.

Half the hall, and around the stairs, is covered in this cork tile which I want to change because I don't like it.

It's this:
cork-shop.co.uk/product/cork-wall/wall-cork-malta-red/?gclid=CjwKCAjwopWSBhB6EiwAjxmqDaVM9hh5_5ahazNrvVBg-7i60jkeegpDpXInGtZCHl-aATiZ6G1DgxoC7a4QAvD_BwE

I don't think I can remove it, so looking for ideas on how to cover it if anyone has any!

Hi when I moved into my home the kitchen ceiling was corked we used wallpaper steamer and a scraper the type with a blade at the end.

Tongue and groove over it? Or panelling? At least it will be quite well insulated.

This is what I am thinking. It's basically welded to the wall so I don't see how I can get it off.

Can I panel straight on to the tiles? The problem is they are textured so not a smooth surface.

I would try it, on a small bit. Perhaps the texturing will aid the adhesion?

Be wary if these are from the 70s or prior as many of them were stuck down with asbestos adhesive and need to be removed professionally. It was something picked up in a homebuyers survey we just did.

The house was built in 1987 so I think we are OK on the asbestos front.

I am thinking of getting mdf boards cut to size and glueing them on - would that work do you think?

We used a staple gun to staple a lovely roughy textured hessian fabric stretched over the cork tiles we inherited.

It's definitely a two person (four hands) task to keep the fabric stretched out and operate the gun but the finish is lovely.

I meant the hessian to be a temporary solution and do something g different but the hessian had worked so well it's been up for nearly twenty years now.

It's very handy as a notice board, easy to stick things up using drawing pins which work well into the cork.

9mm plasterboard over the tiles.

Do you have a picture? Only if you don't mind Smile
