Removals cost

Can anyone give me an idea of costs involved for removals, we have a pretty bog standard 4 bed house. Also I've seen mentioned on here about paying extra for packing, is it really worth the extra (I suspect so as we both work) and again how much extra could I expect to pay for that additional service.
We are in Hertfordshire btw.
I've started to look online for quotes, but it's all fill in a form and we will contact you.... I just want a ballpark figure to work with.

Well I got quoted £1600 from 2 companies for a 2 bed with packing but moving from London to Berkshire. The packing part was about £350 of that and totally worth it!
Pickfords quoted an extra grand on top.

Depends how far you're going. Can you give a ballpark of mileage?

For us the difference between packing and no packing was only a few hundred, so we went for it. They were packed in a day. There's no way we'd have done it anywhere near as well or as quickly. And we'd have been too shattered to unpack afterwards if we had done it ourselves. Just not worth it.

We moved last august , moved approx 5 miles - 3 bed to 4 bed easy access both ends , included some garden furniture and planters, local professional company , I did all packing and got my own boxes. They dismantled and remade beds tables etc They charged me just under £900 rounded up to 1k as they were brilliant ( I've used them a few times )

Sorry should have said Home Counties

Without knowing the distance any figures quoted here will be meaningless.

Moved twice in past 6-months using professional removal companies (ie. Not man with van), did all packing ourselves and supplied own boxes etc.
First was 50-miles, they supplied 4-men, 7.5t lorry and large Luton type van. £1.2K.
Second was 20-miles and slightly more stuff, they supplied 6-men and 2 x 7.5t lorries. £1.1K.

Make sure you get several quotes.
Because we have a lot of stuff in the garden, workshop etc we insisted on physical surveys (many wanted to do video surveys which we refused) and glad we did.

Moved 30 miles a month ago. £2200 including all packing, material, dismantling and reassembling furniture (we took as much service as they could offer!). 3 floor, 5 bed big house each end. It was a local well established firm.

Pickfords quoted £5.5k not incl packing & materials!

LtGreggs · 29/03/2022 21:40

That was central belt Scotland btw

WonkyWheelbarrow · 29/03/2022 21:59

A-ha. We had two quotes for our 8-mile move within Hampshire. One was £1100/£1600 (self-pack/them). The second quote was £1500/£2200 (self-pack/them). We actually went with the second quote because the company itself seemed better, the quote seemed realistic for some of our bulky items, etc ...

My advice would be to check reviews of your companies online, and see what options they have for insurance, etc.

WonkyWheelbarrow · 29/03/2022 22:01

Oh. 3-bed semi, some bulky sports equipment and other awkward items so possibly roughly comparable with yours, cost-wise
