Just wondering how I can get rid of all these white blobs on the paving stones/driveway in my garden.
Obviously the duck that is in these pictures won't be there when I clean it Grin

Possibly a jet wash which at the least will clean the driveway.
There might be a chemical treatment for the blobs, are they a lichen of some sort?

I don't really know what they are, if I try to scrub them a white patch remains. So far I've only used washing up liquid though.

We have a karcher with patio cleaning solution. It helps, but those blobs (which I think are indeed lichen) are stubborn and it takes ages to remove each one.

We treated ours with something called Patio Magic. Its in a blue container and they sell it in Wilko. Just dilute and sprinkle with a watering can all over on a dry day. We did ours last week and it now looks like new! Takes about a week to fully work, so check the weather forecast so you get maximum number of dry days after you've done it.

But they're lichens! A fascinating life form www.wildlifetrusts.org/blog/guest/look-lichen Many of them are rather beatiful, also. According to the above website, "Lichens are how the inanimate mineral mass within rocks is able to cross over into the metabolic cycles of the living. A portion of the minerals in your body is likely to have passed through a lichen at some point. "

If you are going to get rid of them, please try to make sure that the stuff you use isn't harmful to other wildlife.

I like the duck!

I’ve these blobs too. My jet washer is broken and I’m sucking up the fact I need to buy a new one.

I had never heard of lichens. I will research before killing off anything.

Thanks @Anyfeckinusername he's recently decided our garden is his new home along with his lady friend. Quite enjoying watching him.

Pressure washer. But I like lichens so if it was me I'd leave them alone!

Lichens are sensitive to air pollution. Apparently the lack of specific lichens can indicate what type and how bad the air pollution is.

You if you are lost in a wood you can also use them to determine north on tree bark🤷🏼‍♀️.

Most stone cleaners are a type of acid so follow instructions carefully.

I was going to post a photo of lichens on trees as I have lots but my phone won't cooperate!
I love lichen and spotting different types as I walk around.
OP your life will be transformed! ☺️
