Ikea kitchen experience

Really shocked by a B&Q quote of £15k for a 14 unit kitchen. I added all the same units and appliances to a basket and it came to £4k. Obviously I may have missed a few bits but still, is installation really that much?

I've done the same with ikea and my basket comes to around £3k. I've an appt with them tomorrow...am I going to be given the same kind of price?

I've read lots of threads that suggest ikea is surprisingly good quality, but any experience either way is welcome! (Or any other companies to try that won't require a second mortgage!)

Should say, different fitter as we live too far away.

I've got two coming to quote this week. They are those kind of kitchen and bathroom people who do it all, electrical, plumbing etc. £2700 sounds more than reasonable! 🤞

We did a complete kitchen refurb and so the kitchen fitter just fitted the kitchen units and installed the fridge/freezer/oven/hob with electricians doing their bit and granite worksurfaces installed separately.

He charged just over £1k but we assembled all the cabinets before he arrived (me and daughter). We are about 20 miles from our local store and luckily have an estate car, so had a couple of runs over to buy base cabinets and all the drawers etc. It saved time and money as the kitchen fitter had agreed we would that. We then had a home delivery for the tall (2m+) units. It meant we could keep track of what parts we had and kept shortages to a minimum. In the end, the kitchen fitter did assemble some of the drawers as he cracked on really well the first day but it was just drawers he did, in either 60cm or 80cm width. If we hadn't done that, he would have been faced with what seemed 100's of boxes to unpack - or at least it felt like 100's at the time.

we had another quote for over £3k - we reckon he didn't want to do an ikea kitchen, some don't

Yeah I know some don't like them, so I've said in my initial enquiry that it's ikea and some don't even rely to that 😂

I don't understand what ikea gain from using fitters that add such an amount to the quote.

Why not buy the units & find a joiner to fit them, that's what I did with my kitchen, my husband & fil assembled all the units & the joiner fitted them, did all the trims & fitted the worktops, 12' × 9' kitchen, took him 2 days £200 per day, was worth every penny, he thought of things we hadn't like a flyover that was cut so the extractor chimney went through & he put matching cupboard doors on the fixed old boiler cupboard so it looked part of the kitchen & lined & shelved it so I could use it for appliances like my slow cooker, food processor etc.

We got the plans & quote from Wickes & then bought B & Q, told Wickes we needed a quote & plans to get an additional amount on the mortgage & they were fine with this.
