Full length windows - anyone got them?

Hi everyone,

I'm currently renovating my 1970s property and have just made an unpleasant discovery . . . the bow window at the front of the house in our living room has essentially been stuck onto the tiles above and needs to be replaced and repositioned properly.

The house was originally built with a full length window and I'm thinking of restoring this.

Does anyone have a full length window in their living room? Will I regret this decision? If you have one, how do you ensure privacy - what kind of blinds/shutters to you have?

For context, I live in a cul-de-sac and my neighbours opposite are quite far away due to the wide road, so I'm not concerned about them peering in, but do want the option to have privacy.

Or should I give up with prioritising aesthetics here and just go for another bow window?

I love large windows in 70s houses. They let in so much light. If you later regret it, you can always buy some removable frosting, and still have the light. Ours aren’t to the floor but are pretty big.
The only consideration is - where does your radiator go?

Thanks @KloppsTeeth (love your username, btw!).

I feel the same - I think it will make the room lovely and light and I like the idea of restoring the house to how it originally would have looked.

I've already moved the radiator to the right hand side of the window, so it won't cause an obstruction. I'll try and post my rubbish floor plan I did for context.

Good point about adding frosting - I hadn't thought about that. At least we can see how we feel about it once it's installed knowing we have options later.

Have you got blinds on your large window, can I ask? What did you go for?

I have a 1978 chalet bungalow with two sets of full-height windows at the front of the house. We have vertical blinds and heavy curtains. Privacy is not a huge issue for us as we're set into the corner of a cul-de-sac - we do see a lot of our neighbour's daily lives though!

I have a full length 70s window, live in the middle of a cul-de-sac so have houses all around and across. There were vertical blinds when we moved in which, I hated, so got Venetian blinds not only do they look a million times better, to me, but got loads of privacy and don’t feel looked upon. From outside you can’t see in at all but still got a lot of light.

Which direction does the room face? My friend's old house had these but they found the room unbearable in the summer, as it was so incredibly hot unless the curtains were drawn.
