Recommended areas around Leeds

We are looking to move from Hampshire to an area commutable to Leeds City centre due to work. I permanently work from home, however my husband needs to be within a reasonable commutable distance to central Leeds. His travel will be infrequent so up to 2 hours will be okay.

We have approx. £350k to spend for a 3-4 bedroom and need a garage and patch of England for a sighthound to do zoomies (a.k.a. a not very small garden for a rather large dog!). We don't have children so schools aren't an issue, but I'd like to continue my volunteer role as a youth worker if possible so an area that has a community feel is a plus.

So far, I'm looking at Methley and the locality - anywhere I should be focussed on? Am I on the right track?

Thank you!

I live in Methley and it is lovely although it is becoming more and more expensive: I commute into Leeds, the train station in woodlesford is a five minute drive and then it’s just over ten mins on the train. Loads of great dog walking areas near the river, canal and St Aidan’s. I absolutely love living here, been her 15 years now.

You could also look at the Huddersfield side- Mirfield could be worth a look, it has a station with regular trains to Leeds. Been a while since I worked in Leeds but from memory it took around 30mins. It’s cheaper than north Leeds etc but house prices are rising. Still, I think you should get a 3/4 bed house with a decent garden for your budget.

Nearby Roberttown is a lovely village with a good community but no station, you would have to drive to Mirfield. There are plenty of nice towns and villages around this area but few have stations.

I live nearby (about 10m from Leeds) and it’s not a bad commute, it used to take me up to an hour to drive in rush hour, sometimes less. But parking can be expensive and difficult to find spaces.

I live in a small village just off the M1 south of Wakefield, I use the new park and ride at Stourton to commute 1 or 2 days per week. It takes me about 15 mins to get to the park and ride and costs £3, bus is quick into town.
