Neighbours retrospective planning - very stressed!

Our neighbours have eventually applied for retrospective planning for an outbuilding on our boundary (the council were about to start enforcement action). This outbuilding has totally ruined the enjoyment of our home and I am so stressed that it is going to get passed just for an easy life for the planners. We have objected being as honest as we can and advised the council what we would be happy with in terms of a compromise but the whole process is horrible, I can't sleep and can't think about anything else. There is prob about another 2 or 3 months until a decision is made - any words of wisdom to help me get a grip!

Last update - I hope!

Had the planning meeting and it has been refused! They have been asked to make some changes and reapply so not quite over but hopefully some changes will be made and we can all move on!
Thanks so much for all the support on here, at least I will be able to sleep now 😴xx

Great update, well done!

That's good news, are they moving it next to their own house now instead of yours!

Seeline · 18/05/2022 20:35

That's great news. Keep in contact with the Planning Officer/Enforcement Officer - they should be putting time scales in place for new applications to be made, or if not serving an Enforcement Notice. Keep chasing and don't let them forget this one.

Fantastic news. Make sure they (council & neighbours) follow up on the rulings with clear timescales and consequences

Our NDN's built a huge outdoor entertainment centre in their front garden during lockdown. We reported it immediately as a planning breach but due to Covid, it's been deemed as "not viable" to pursue via enforcement.

The noise is horrendous, it's an eye sore and the worst part is that it's a fully wooden structure sited right next to a 1500 litre LPG tank. Even building regs weren't interested. I wish you luck, OP, our NDN's thoughtless actions have made our lives a misery.

Fridgeorflight · 18/05/2022 23:21

What are the changes they have been asked to make?

Seeline · 19/05/2022 08:30

@Badger1970 Keep reporting it and keep in at your local Councillor. If the Council accepts it requires PP, then if it is causing nuisance, they should at least be asking for an application to be made. Have you tried Environmental Health?Lodge a complaint with the Chief Executive. If that gets you nowhere you can complain to the Local Government Ombudsman.

You need to keep checking in case they appeal. Obviously check the amendments are carried out if they don’t appeal.
