Is this too much to do?

Moved in three years ago. Our house a 70s 3-bedroom terrace, with very decent sized rooms and built in storage. The garden is small but we struggle to find the time to maintain that anyway. DH says that so much needs doing to the house, we should look at moving. I argue that we are unlikely to find something in our budget that is in better condition without moving far away from transport links etc.

We replaced the upstairs flooring, painted and had a new electric consumer unit installed when we moved in, but there is still a lot to do.

The list of required upgrades is this:

  • New windows and front door (two windows are original wood-frame single glazing)
  • New flooring (laminate) downstairs
  • Install decking in garden (currently uneven concrete steps from back door)
  • Board the loft (there is cracking in ceiling plaster from years of uneven weight distribution)
  • Replace downstairs toilet (cistern cracked)
  • Paint interior doors and upgrade handles
  • New kitchen, including flooring and tiles (can live with it, but integrated oven is on its way out)
  • Upgrade radiators (only one currently has an attached thermostat and one has never worked since we moved in)

There is a lot of time, money and inconvenience involved (especially the windows and the kitchen), but I feel like people do this all the time and make it work. Is it too much?

Thought of more things after I posted:

  • Get drive re-done
  • Tile front step

There is always going to be something that needs doing in any house. You just need to make time. Some of the jobs listed will be quicker than others, why not start on them to get the ball rolling? Cracked cistern just need to get a plumber out..

I feel your pain, we have lived here for 16 years, 1930s house, and it's taken ages to get jobs done .
Whether the list is too long depends on your time, money and patience.
Doing the smaller less expensive jobs will make you feel better, like the cistern and tiling the step.
New kitchen , driveway etc are expensive but you could start by getting quotes and making a plan. Sometimes you can get good kitchen units second hand or just replace doors or worktops so there are ways of cutting down costs.
If you move how much will it cost? Stamp duty , solicitors etc etc
Would it make more sense to spend the money where you are?
Of course if you're sick of the house and want a house with nothing that needs doing then move!
