We are finally getting round to sorting out our bedroom.

We are lucky in that it’s a reasonable sized room and so we are having a partition wall built and a small walk in wardrobe to house some pax wardrobe fittings.

I’d love to hear about what others have done in their bedrooms. Any must haves that you couldn’t live without?

I really would love this to be a beautiful, relaxation for us.

Blackout curtains.

custardbear · 18/03/2022 07:07

Yes to the walk-in pax wardrobe as we have this and I love it. Have lighting put in too.
We also had an en suite put in, double sink and large walk-in shower - love this and love the privacy - although both our children also love it so usually use our shower (they have their own en suites lol)
Our bedroom is downstairs so we had French doors put in too so we can walk out into the garden or have the doors open on a lovely morning
Enjoy 😊

Thanks @custardbear it’s good to hear that PAX has worked well for you. I agree with you re the lighting, did you use ikea for that too?

Sadly we can’t stretch to an en-suite space wise, but we are right next to the family bathroom which we share with one DC.

I would love a dressing table, I am a total beauty product horder. Somewhere lovely to sit and apply makeup / fill my wrinkles would be fabulous.

The main thing with ours is that it is literally a bed, bedside tables, hidden wardrobes and that’s it. We have a lovely en suite which has a proper window, full size bath / shower etc.

I think the key to a decent bedroom is not to overload it with crap and have really decent storage so you don’t end up with a chair that gets all the clothes that are too dirty to go back in the wardrobe but too clean to be washed etc. And make sure it’s not a dumping ground for laundry to be sorted etc etc.

Layer textures and layer lighting. My bedroom is really luxurious but quite neutral and calming. It’s the texture layering and the different lighting sources that make it luxurious.

Little reading lights behind your headboard (that pull out) are really useful. Being able to turn off the overhead lights without getting out of bed is great.

Don’t scrimp on the quantity of curtain fabric and definitely don’t have short curtains

The dumping ground comment resonates so much. I am hoping the PAX will sort that out!

Lighting wise I think we are going for downlighting from the ceiling and then some wall lights and bedside lights.

I did think we would go with a blind - but I’ll look for curtains.

We also need a new bed (ours is almost 20 years old!) I want a lovely padded headboard.

I know we are so lucky to have all of this by the way!

Power points in the right places and plenty of them with usb slots by the bed for phones etc. paint the radiators to blend in with the walls and there is no law that I know of that says you have to have the radiator under the window.

Somewhere specific for clothes due to be worn again.

Aquamarine1029 · 18/03/2022 08:33

Make sure all of your lighting is dimmable and that there are control switches right next to your bed on both sides.

Uncluttered and a comfy bed.

A fully loaded dressing table would give me the jitters and I'm by no means a minimalist.

BeanStew22 · 18/03/2022 08:43

I have 2 rows of hooks on the backs of the door to my walk in wardrobe…. This keeps the clothes dumping ground compact and vertical Grin

Have you got space for a full length mirror? (As the wardrobe doors, or on the back wall of your walk in?). Also, get the walk in lit … I like the plug in lights you can get at places like Dunelm

Brunonononooo · 18/03/2022 08:48

We are currently doing ours as well and I echo minimal furniture if you can get away with it, I have only got bed, bedside tables, dressing table and a small vintage cupboard. If you want a TV could you consider a Samsung frame? We have gone with that and I LOVE it! Looks like beautiful artwork but I can watch the Bridgerton new series in bed in a few weeks Grin

This sounds fabulous! I treated myself to a Button and Sprung bed - proper padded headboard and it is lovely. You can also choose your fabric type and colour (I went for a plush velvet with buttons). I also have a dressing table and made sure there were sockets near it for my hairdryer etc. I actually upcycled a stag minstrel dressing table with the lovely three panelled mirror. Enjoy designing Smile

I have a walk-in wardrobe (not Pax, a proper room with built in shelves and rails) and it's such a game changer. Helps keep the bedroom clutter free which makes it a more calming relaxing space. I have a beautiful vintage dressing table with two big drawers so I keep very minimal things out on view but when I sit at it everything I need is right there. We also have shutters on the window, but that's quite an extravagance (came with the house) but shuts all the light out beautifully

custardbear · 18/03/2022 17:12

Lighting wise we went for 4 spotlights (not embedded ones) so can direct or sim lighting - works as a night light if kids invade our room in the night 🤪

custardbear · 18/03/2022 17:13

If you have space you could make a dressing table area in wardrobe - depends on how many clothes etc you have to house 😆

parietal · 18/03/2022 22:09

bookshelves and really good bedside tables. I like to read a lot in bed and to have a good selection of books nearby.

Good bedside lights, ideally moveable like an anglepoise so you can have different lighting for reading v. other activities.

electric sockets in the right places.

Holothane · 18/03/2022 22:12

Dream room biggest bed ever dark curtains, walk in wardrobe en-suite bathroom walk in bath.

WellTidy · 18/03/2022 22:51

More storage than you could ever think necessary to include cubbies for shoes and bags (behind doors, if they’re open they’ll get dusty) and a triple or quadruple laundry sorter

Hidden electrics for wall lights at headboard height so that you don’t have to have bedside lamps cluttering g up a bedside table

The biggest bed you can afford and fit into the space

Really tall headboard

Artwork in bedrooms is also a really big like for me

Thank you all so much for sharing your thoughts. It’s really clear that getting the internal parts of PAX right is going to be crucial. I am planning on one of those drawers that has cut out sections for belts, sunglasses etc.

The idea of a Frame TV @Brunonononooo is genius - we will be pursuing that.

Listening to many of you, the lighting is so important. Good to know we will focus on that.
