Agate grey windows and door ?

Elasticatedwaist · 16/03/2022 14:45

I’ve chosen agate grey for our new windows (upvc) I now need to either agree to have the timber 1930s door painted the same colour or choose a farrow and ball colour for it.
The house is a stone built 1930s semi rural.
Please help before I go completely doolally !

Have you signed on the dotted line for grey windows? It’s not a colour I would have picked, I don’t think it will look good against the stone walls, personally I would have chosen a Cotswold green.

I have agate grey windows, we repainted our front door is Downpipe. This is when it was first done.

No haven’t signed up yet. I originally thought cream but worried it would be a dirty cream rather than a fresh cream iyswim

I think cream would look lovely and be more in keeping with your house, I just think the grey will be too drab for the colour of your stone, of course it’s all personal preference!

carefullycourageous · 17/03/2022 13:51

I think grey is not the best choice for that stone, it is too of the moment.

Personally my view is something more in keeping with your house would be better.

deadlanguage · 17/03/2022 13:56

Have you held a sample of the agate grey against the stone? I can see it clashing

SundayTeatime · 17/03/2022 13:56

I wouldn’t pick agate grey for windows either

Rantypanties · 17/03/2022 13:57

I found when looking for windows it’s very hard to find the right cream unless you’re going aluminium then you can colour match whatever you like!! I found a lot of creams were quite pinkish in colour, which didn’t suit cotswold Bradstone but may look ok with your brick.

Agate grey would look nice but it’s really difficult to match with standard door colours! Maybe an oak door?

Cinnabomb · 17/03/2022 14:37

Also depends on your lighting. I have an agate grey garage door and it looks sage green! It’s not grey at all on my house

I'm not sure agate grey would work with the stone. I have cream windows, which I would say are more a magnolia colour than a true cream. When I was wondering about window colours I used to obsessively look at other people's houses when I was out and about (best if I was a car passenger😃), it's much easier to see how a colour will work from a whole house rather than a tiny sample.

GlitterBiscuits · 17/03/2022 15:03

Grey is going to look very dated very soon.

WhatAWasteOfOranges · 17/03/2022 15:25

Christ they like the colour and we’re asking about a door!
Agate grey windows looks lovely on stone cottages, there are loads of them where I live in the Oxfordshire cotswolds. I think same colour door would work best because you’ve already got a colour on the windows…

Celoo · 17/03/2022 15:32

I would back out of the grey if you can. In the not too distant future people will be trying to remove all the grey they've coated their houses in.

Totalwasteofpaper · 17/03/2022 15:44

Cream would be MUCH better.
Back out of grey if you can

ButtockUp · 17/03/2022 17:03

I agree with PP that it will look dated very soon and doors and windows will last so much longer than trends.

I also agree that it may not go with the stone colour. For want of a better word , your colour choice might make your property front look 'drab' or 'dreary.'

Sorry OP.

But that is just my opinion.

Elasticatedwaist · 17/03/2022 17:38

That was my worry with the grey too. I think you’re all right.
The joiner is bringing samples tomorrow, grey and cream. I’m veering towards cream now with maybe the same for the door or farrow and ball pigeon maybe.

Choosing is so bloody difficult!

ButtockUp · 17/03/2022 20:15

Pigeon looks lovely but be sure to hold it up against your stonework.

I think it might work.
