Advice on laying wood floor and gap at threshold

We are laying an engineered wood floor. Advice is to leave a 12mm gap all round for expansion and then cover with the skirting board to cover the gap. This all seems good but we are not sure what to do at the threshold.

One carpenter friend has advised it would be okay to abut that bit direct and glue so not leave the gap. This would definitely look best as we won't be able to cover with skirting, but DH is worried that will mean there is no gap for expansion at that point, and as the whole floor is glued together it could then cause warping / twisting.

Does anyone have any advice on this please?
What did you / your floor layer do at the threshold?

You have a wooden threshold. Can you not remove that, floor runs underneath and you can have a slightly angled edge if the threshold is a bit higher?

You need to run it under the threshold.

Yes that would be ideal, but It is a pocket door so we can't raise the threshold as the door runs over it, and into the pocket on right of picture - not hinged. So there wouldn't be any clearance.

The little hole you can see on the door frame is actually the door - with space for a mushroom pull (on order)

I can't help you on the issue with the threshold, but love your bathroom tiles. Can I ask where you got them please?

Thanks @ProudThrilledHappy - I will show that to hubby, it may be the answer.

Thank you @WindowWanker 😊

They are Fired Earth Evora (I waited until they were in the 20% off sale, which they run quite frequently - and was glad it was a small area!)

They are encaustic and so need sealing, which I asked the tiler to do. Fired Earth have a useful spec sheet on it on website (and were very porous so actually needed sealing again as I could see water still absorbing into them a bit). All good now. I love them, but don't think they were my most practical choice ever!

You can get all sorts of threshold trims that cover the floating gap like the skirting boards do

Get a bigger wooden threshold and cut the bottom of your door so it fits over it.
