Hairpin legs

Thinking about making a dining table by adding hairpin legs to a table top made from reclaimed scaffold boards. DH thinks it's a bad idea as he thinks it will be too wobbly, but I thought as the legs are made from steel it should be pretty steady? Anyone got any experience of using them or fancy weighing in??

Have a look at the website thehairpinlegcompany.co.uk - I’ve used a set of the brass finish legs recently to lift the weight of a Nathan sideboard and it has worked really well. The site has all different lengths and what they are suitable for (I think it included a table but I could be mistaken). I spent £60 on mine and it was worth it. There were much cheaper options on Amazon but I wasn’t convinced they would hold the weight.

The legs also come with small rubber feet which are barley noticeable but do stop it wobbling (and help protect the floor)

I made one, and then a breakfast bar. I’ll see if I can attached pic

I didn't make it myself but have a wooden table either hairpin legs. I wanted a custom size for a narrow dining room. At 75cm by 150cm it is heavy but no problem with wobbling. As above it came with little plastic feet. Also have a matching bench with hairpin legs.

They are not strong against sideways loads or wobbles.

The legs give great leverage to pull the screws out.

Think of how you use a claw hammer (which is only about 350mm long) to lever out a nail with one hand. Now think of a lever at least twice as long which, one day, someone will sit on or bump into when laden.

Thanks for the replies - the pics all look great and exactly what I'm trying to achieve. However I think your point is the same as what my DH was getting at, PigletJohn, so perhaps he's onto something after all. Thanks for the input. Further research necessary, I think!
