What should I do with this?!

We have a small roof terrace, but the wall with the big lip and the black bricks bit to the left are really quite low. We were thinking of putting some trellis up on top of the wall with the lip, or is there something else that we could do ourselves? Other ideas was putting some tall bamboo?

If we were to put trellis up, how would we attach it to the wall with the big lip? Would we have to have one set of battons that would run to the same width as the lip, and then we would attach trellis battons to those?

Thank you!

Did you mean to attach a picture?

Oh yes, I did. Here we go!

I think the fixing coves you have depends on what it is for. Is it for privacy or safety?

Choices

Assuming the "wall with the big lip" is vertical (can't really tell), I would attach a horizontal batten at ground level and one just below the "lip" and attach a tall trellis to those, so it continues above the wall. The trellis can stand on the floor to improve stability. Obviously, battens need to be deep enough so they stick out more than the lip.

Use spacers between the trellis itself and the battens so plants are able to grow behind the upper batten. Either purpose-made spacers or small blocks of wood).

Or, you can buy freestanding troughs which have trellises attached.

Sorry for the 'lip' is the shelf type ledge on the top of the wall behind the plans.

We're after a bit of privacy, and a bit to stop anyone leaning over the edge.

Well, assuming it doesn't stick out too much my solution should work.....

I would probably do trellis down to the ground. Just pack the gap with a few chunks of wood.

That's great, thanks all! Am about to buy a power drill and attempt it myself. Wish me luck. Any tips appreciated!
